Hi guys;

Ive got a japanese spec eclipse headunit which works perfectly, except for the radio, which is on japanese bands only. Is there anyone reccomended who can install the FM band expander in Sydney? Preferrable close to CBD would be good.

Thanks

Send it to Mark Paddick in Canberra. Express post, and you'll have it back in a couple of days. He's da man.

How does he fix the actual unit? Do you get the right numbers showing up on the unit?

1. Mark will install a band expander which will allow you to receive the stations here.
2.I don't believe so. Never with a Jap unit. You'd have to buy a local head unit for that.

bugger - I was hoping to just get it done in Sydney itself. The sad thing is that there is already an expander in the car, but for some reason just doesnt work....

Band expanders are simple to fit. Check out Reepas' site for instructions.

I think reepa is still updating his site. Also, from memory, the instructions he had were for a V8 (different location to TT)

Different location but exactly the same principal.
Connect antenna to expander, expander to radio antenna input and expander power wire to antenna power from radio. Simple.

Do the stock head units need two FM expanders? I've got one but reception is rubbish.

It is debateable whether fitting the second expander will improve things because the diversity circuit in the tuner will see the carrier from the first expander and assume there is a good signal and never switch to the second one.
A proper conversion is the way to do it but that's not ready....yet.
A better quality expander may help.

In that case, are there any wiring pin diagrams for what the antenna wire is? Im very tempted to just poke around and see if I can get it working.

Responding to myself here, but is this the correct wiring for our cars?

The antenna power wire is always attached to the antenna cables but you could just use any Acc power (cig lighter).

Sorry, but what colour is the antenna wire? Just to make sure I am splicing into the right one.

Just tried adding the FM band expander, and just cant get it to work at all. So........ can any one recommend ANYONE who can fit the converters ? I know it should be a very simple fix, but at this point, just want my radio working!

Sidd... it's the blue cable from the eclipse headunit. Remote antenna turnon. that'll give the fm expander power. Get some bullet connectors from jaycar, crimp it onto the end of the fm expander power, plug in done.

If it wants a ground cable too, black one from the headunit.
