Planning to have a go on Friday at this. I understand that the factory crossover sits in the speaker box. Seemed that the box is obviously glued together besides all the screws.

1.I suppose got to rip the two parts of the box apart from the glue and just glue it back again later?

2. Are the jaycar crossovers a straight fit in the box mounting-wise? If no, which I am thinking, what to do?

4.What wires to connect to what?

5. Do I throw away the factory crossover or connect the new one along with it?

6. Is it worth installing in terms of better sound without the Jaycar tweeters as well?

7.Whats the part no. for the jaycar tweeters?

Just doing a bit of the homework guys as after doing a search on the topic I am still quite confused. Cheers.

If you want a better sound get a full set of components, i just can't imagine factory speakers sounding any better by changing a crossover. tho i could be wrong, as for wiring it should be marked on it what goes into what and yea you would removed the stock one for the new one to wire into its place.

You are very wrong. The factory speakers sound MUCH, MUCH better ( that is understated ) with a proper crossover. The factory crossover is just a capacitor.

You are going to be very hard pressed to find speakers for front that sound as good as factory ones do, at any price range.

I installed them yesterday (crossovers)and it totally changed my audio experience, much cleaner treble from the tweeters and cleaner bass from factory speaker.

Tahmid, it is too much to explain man, you need to go to a shop, but yes, they do fit into that box, and no you don't need to rip the box apart, just take off the speaker !

Thanks Marius. Would you please mind having a look at my other thread and perhaps advising on anything?

So did you connect the crossover before the speaker ie effectively supplying both speaker and tweeter or inbetween the speaker and tweeter, supplying just the tweeter?

Cheers man!

Hey Tahmid,

Which brand of crossover did you use in your installation?

I just brought a Soarer and I'm pretty keen to look at cost effective ways to improve the car.

the front splits in the soarer are very impressive factory offerings for sure! i bet most soarer owners are v. happy with them and have no plans to upgrade. however, i feel they are not in the same league as many of the affordable component sets from driver manufacturers. your statement "at any price" is waaaaay out of the ballpark's carpark.

the factory drivers are well built, but cheap (i would estimate they would owe toyota only a couple of dollars a set, if that). they are mounted in a relatively lightweight plastic box which is a step in the right direction but the construction will ultimately introduce resonances that will colour the overall sound compared to properly installed splits.

among many other differences, the oem drivers are capable of limited excursion/power handling, limited frequency extension and they would undoubtedly be significantly higher in distortion and lower in linearity, have less desirable off-axis performance, etc etc, than aftermarket components. even just by inspecting these drivers visually, it will become evident that they are a totally different kettle of fish (fancy stiff/light composite/metal/ceramic/etc cones/ribbons/horns, sophisticated magnet/basket/cooling technology, advanced voice coil technology.... the list goes on and on)

http://www.d-s-t.com.au/
http://www.morelhifi.com/products/mob_audio.html
http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/page.php?page=products

.... and many many more out there.... focal/jmlab, rainbow, mb quart.... i would bet that anything of this calibre (starting at, say, $150/set), would absolutely trounce the stock components.

i am in the process of installing multi-thousands of dollars worth of studio-level audiophile stuff in my car. my splits are made by dynaudio in denmark and are worth ~$800 a set. there's no way the factory system could do 1/10th of what these will do.

even compared to some other factory sound systems out there, the stock soarer system (even modified with "real" crossovers) would be many steps behind. one listen to the factory lexus-levinson setups will confirm this.

i hope this helps people make the correct decisions.
