Ive been looking around and seen headunits underneath the EMV but has anyone ever decided to throw away the tape player and move the EMV down a space and attach there headunit ontop of the EMV? can it be done?

If you wish to retain the use of the EMV and associated factory gear you NEED the tape deck. People have been known to relocate it somewhere else in the car but switching functions (TV/FM/AM etc) then becomes a problem.

You dont need to keep the tapedeck, unless in the future you want to add a dvd player or something.
One problem that you may have is that the top of the aircon functions and bottom of the surround is rounded so unless you are up for some custom work it will look untidy in my opinion.

If you want to continue to use the factory hifi then you WILL need the tape deck wired to the system somewhere as has been said by Michael M.
If you remove the tape deck (and thus oem hifi operation),you can still use the screen for video play back - providing you have the correct video gear to do so.

what if i remove the original tape deck. can i still connect an after market headunit (being my carputer) and use the original sound speakers-sub-tweaters etc.. ??

Yes, but you'll need to run your own speaker wires. The door speakers can be tapped into behind the kick panels, for the rears it's easy enough to run new wire all the way to the speakers. If you want to use the factory sub, you'll have to install an aftermarket amplifier to power it and run all the necessary power and signal lines for it. I imagine that if you could find wiring information, it could be possible to use the factory subwoofer amplifier but as I understand it's not really worth the effort due to it's low power output.

yes its possible.. but its gonna be a TIGHT fit..You'll have to modify your ashtray, and extend your wiring for the tape deck which is then mounted somewhere else in the car.
You may also need to extend some of the wiring on the EMV as I'm not too sure how much slack there is on the cables (especially for the AC unit).
Real c u n t of a job but if you have the patience or the $$$ it can be done! and I know someone in Melbourne who can do the work for you. Be looking at $75 an hour though..
