you havent wired in the power antenna booster from the factory loom. even though there isn't a physical power antenna, there is a power booster as the antenna is in the rear window

on your head unit, in the manual it will be described as either power antenna signal wire, or remote turn on, or amp remote, or something of the similar. as for the soarer loom, i cannot be 100% certin as to what it is, but normally it is a blue wire. it may have a white stripe or something. but if you have hooked up your system right, assuming you have used the factory loom for your speakers, it should only be one of the few left. you should be able to do a search either on google or on the forum and search for audio loom pinout or something like that. i haven't changed the system in my soarer, but failing that, you may be able to go to repco, JB or your local audio dealer, and see if they carry a toyota loom. generally toyota looms are in 2 pieces. the main one (large one) contains all the necessary wires. e.g. power, accessoriees, earth, front speakers, power antenna, amplifier turn on and illumination. the second plug, normally has 4 wires and that is for the rear left and right speakers. have another look, otherwise if it isn't too hard, plug the original soarer radio back in, turn the car to on, but you don't need to start. and use a multimeter to probe each wires except for the speaker wires and switch between radio and either cd or tape. this way when you turn on the radio the power antenna will activate giving you the correct pin for the power antenna.

Which antenna wire did you use???
The smaller of the wires needs a converter to make it a normal size, then you use this converted antenna plug in the head unit, otherwise AM will be fantastic, but FM will suck so bad you wont get low-level transmissions (such as the good old Drive-in).
