hi all.

i'm looking at installing a JVC KW-AVX810 head unit into a soarer. i would like recommendations on a relatively small 5ch amp to run the system.

i plan to keep the stock speakers (at least for now).

anyone got ideas ? i don't need heaps of power.
not looking to build a pounding system, just good quality.

no more than about $400 on the amp.
i would prefer an all in one 5ch, that i can stick under one of the seats.

i really don't want to clutter up the boot.
as i said, i'm not after a ground pounder.

if there was a way i could use the factory amp, i probably would.

I personally have never seen a 5ch amp that small, so it could fit under a seat.
Most of them are long.

Also $400 for a 5ch amp won't really get you a decent brand.

i think it will fit the bill.

it's not huge, and it is about on the money too.

hey guys,

i just found something on ebay that might be great.
it's an adaptor that says that it will integrate the factory amp with an after market head unit.

it's cheap too (under $20) but my concern would be the pre out level.

the JVC that i want buy, has 5 Volt pre output's.
i'm thinking that this would be too much for the factory amp, that's probably expecting to see half a volt at most.

what are peoples thoughts ?

the factory amp still works great, all the stock speakers in my car (including the sub) are in perfect condition, and sound great.

should i take a punt on the adaptor ?

As Scott said for $400 you will struggle to get a decent 5 channel amp. A decent unit will set you back around $700, less if you haggle a bit.

In regards to the adaptor, can you really go wrong for $20? Wont break the bank if it doesn't work.

true about the adaptor i guess.

as far as a "decent amp" the response series of amps have routinely been raved about by the car audio magazines.
fair enough, they are not the worlds greatest, but on a bang for buck basis they are good.
it retails at $499

as i stated earlier, i'm not looking to be heard in the next suburb. so the response 5ch at 50x4 + 150x1 should suit my needs i think.

ill give the adaptor a go, and if that does not work, ill have to buy a separate amp i guess....

thanks guys.

Jason.

They have them in Autobarn. I bought and butchered one Yesterday for the plug end for something I'm working on. Cost me $15.

Ben,

what are your thoughts on the stock amp agreeing with the 5 volt pre out ?

Honestly?

I haven't the foggiest idea.

I have only ever hooked up aftermarket heads to after market amps, never a stock amp (actually I've never owned a car with a stock amp before!)

I have seen others convert preout to line level(?- speaker wire) to hook up to amps, but this may be a waste of a good quality signal.

I really don't have the depth of knowledge to answer you question. There must be an audiophile on the forum somewhere. I've never really bothered in the Soarer now I have kids.

The Line level signal comes from the pre-outs on the head unit. The only time you convert is if you want to go from speaker level out (when the head unit doesn't have pre-outs) to line level in on an amplifier.

I knew they'd done something like that. As I said, I don't have the depth of knowledge.
