G'day Guys,
I had some JL 6x9 speakers laying around which I originally had for my 3.0GT to fit in the rear parcel tray, to do this I bought a sheet of MDF 5mm thick but ended up just leaving it for a few months!
But last week I got my 3.0GT back on the road and became fed up with the usless 4" speakers I put into the back for a quick fix a while ago, especially since the fronts where quite good so the back was lacking in sound!
I took the old parcel tray out and traced it on to the mdf sheet to get the general shape and when from there to get it fitting nicely which took a bit of time trimming it with a jig saw but worked out very well in the end
I then marked the positions for the speakers on the mdf board so that the speakers large magnets would sit through the old speaker holes, other wise they wouldn't have fitted.
Once I sorted the cutting stage out, I got some black material and glued it to the mdf, luckily I got no creases or anything, came out perfect. To finish it off I stapled the material all around the sides of the mdf tray and trimed the excess material off.
Oh, also forgot about the Amp! I bought a Rockford Fosgate 160a2 amp, 40w RMS per channel I think which suits these speakers perfectly, I managed to mount that up under the parcel tray, couldn't have worked any easier! gGot the wiring sorted easily too, quite happy with that side of the installation, I'll take some pictures of it too.
Anyway... lastly I connected the speakers to the speaker wire for the left and right channels and put them into the positions on the fitted parcel tray and screwed them in, put the mesh covers on and was all done!
Works great and fitted back together very well, so much nicer to have a bit of bass and clarity!
I'll post some pictures up of the results tomorrow!

I'm thinking about doing this. You make it seem so easy! Once the MDF was the right size, did it just drop straight in? What about the seatbelts, did you have to modify the clips or anything? One more thing - was the 5mm sturdy enough for both 6x9"s? I wanna install two speakers plus a sub, is there much room to go thicker?
