I have 2 factory stacker head units( No, I am not a Tasmanian!), and they both have different levels of volume to each other at the same control setting. Is there an adjustment to alter this, or is it just the way it is.

??? I'm assuming they're not installed in the car. Or at most one is and the other one isn't... stock head unit is 2.5DIN?

No, they are not both in at once.
I swapped the 2 over the other day, and at the same volume setting on the dial, one was not as loud and not as much bass as the other.
The original single CD head was not as bassy as my now stacker unit is either.

Oh ok then. Probably Mark P. has the answer to this , all I know is that the single CD players were different between the 91~93 and late 96~ models (there's an extra connector on the later model head units and the earlier single CD players are incompatible).

Just a question, how hard was it to fit in the 12CD changer and corresponding deck? That's something I'd be very interested in.

Jose, once you have all the parts its not very hard at all. The main problem will be getting the correct loom for the head unit, that has the stacker plugs in it. I got my loom from Just Jap in Sydney when I was up there on hols mid year.
The stacker wiring should be in the rh side of the boot, and there is another plug near the gear stick, probably taped up as mine was.
Then find someone who doesnt want their old system, get Mark P to check it out, then fit it.

Like Ian says the only hard part is finding the right dash loom for the headunit you want to fit. (this is the loom that comes from the large white plastic holder that fits under the head unit/EMV...it is relatively small and easy to change). All other wiring is already fitted to all cars except those with the really pov inbuilt-amp headunit that has no CD at all. These cars will require a centre/rear main loom as well.

Coolies :-) Will hunt for one, although my OEM cd deck has an extra connector that the older single-CD head units don't have? Would that cause many headaches?

I also noticed the stock EMV head unit/12CD changer in a particular Soarer was louder than my stocky. For me it's hard to see how having a different head unit would alter the volume and bass (unless the corresponding head unit for the 12CD changer has a pre-amp of some sort).

There are internal adjustments in the factory head units....maybe one is for volume although volume control is digital so maybe not.
If you have a factory sub then the headunit you replace yours with must have the sub connector. The factory made different headunits for cars with/without subs so you need to get the right one.(the extra socket in some factory headunits)
Post '96 headunits won't fit without major rewiring.
