Hey all.

My TT CD player, the non-stacker variety ... does not work. Anybody in Victoria, preferably the Frankston region that can fix this kinda stuff?

At the moment i'm looking at a few options :
- Fix cd player
- aftermarket 1-din CD player - ugly cos there's a hole
- AVIC (GPS+DVD) - $$$ which i plan to spend on a retrim

If i can get the CD player fixed cheaply, I'm thinking I'll do that. I just found out i need a new harmonic balancer, so i'm feeling kinda poor right now ...

I'd go the single DIN route, John. The hole can be filled with a Mazda 1.5 DIN pocket which would be a nice spot for gauges. Alternatively you can put in a 2-DIN unit with a half DIN pocket from Aeropro. There are also tray and drawer and cup holder options in DIN size as well as (rather expensive) DIN-sized digital gauges.

My unit works fine (for CDs) but my radio choices in outback WA are limited at the best of times, without having Jap frequency limitations (I tried a band expander but the signal was weakened). I'm looking for a medium priced single DIN with Bluetooth so I don't have to pull over when a call comes in, hopefully with a new external aerial to replace the twin window aerials. While I don't have a turbo so many gauges are superfluous, it would be nice to be able to have somewhere decent to put them (after recently going through the exercise of trying to mount a trans temp gauge).

I can recommend the Panasonic CQ-RX400N - for the price its hard to believe how many features you get. You do need to add the optional bluetooth adaptor though as thats the one thing it doesn't have as standard. I put one in the family car a couple of weeks ago and its very good.

Thanks for the tip, Matthew. I've noticed that the price of the Bluetooth adaptors is rather steep, with the additional hassle of fitting. I think I'll go the integrated route.

I've just done a long outback trip, (well, 370kms down a few days ago and the same back tonight- no towns at all in between) with almost no radio, just limited AM coverage near the start and finish. I played about 3 CDs (actually 4 but not all of 2 of them) and when I ejected the last CD it was almost too hot to touch (would have been uncomfortable if pressed to the face, for instance). The stereo was really hot! I did have the volume cranked up, as I was alone, but it certainly seemed strange.

I have to say that the sound quality was very good, although things started to get hairy when I cranked "Inna-Garda-Davida" (sp) up- it's an obviously old recording, not remastered, and sounded like crap. When trying to get decent volume, the speakers were cutting out, and the "hiss" was as bad as a cassette.
