Alright so i just bought a Pioneer 6050UB and having a few minor dramas. Firstly i have hooked everything up and works fine. How my questions are a) what is the purpose of the immunilation wire from the headunit, i hooked it up to where i think it should go and the unit works and then when i unhook it the unit still works b)im not sure if this is normal or not maybe ive never noticed but when you put the key in the position just before turning the engine on the climate control display and headunit work fine. When you start the car power gets cut from the AC display and headunit and the intro to the headunit occurs. How do i solve this as it me off. Same thing happens with my guages where if you turn the ACC power on and then after a min or two go to start the car the guages turn off and you get the opening ceremony again. Lastly ive got the antenna wire plugged into the headunit but i dont think my antenna is powering up, but ill have to check that right now.

Anyone able to help me out with what i should change to get these things working as they should.

Cheers

Illumination wire; goes to a hotlead of a globe on the dash that is powered when the headlights are on, simply there to lower the intensity of the deck illumination at night. I am yet to use this feature on any deck I have owned as the deck doesn't really bother me at night.

Start up sequence; when you go to crank the engine all the available power gets diverted for that purpose. I don't think I've even seen a car that doesn't cut out the deck when cranking the motor. You obviously just haven't noticed it before :-)

Antenna powering up; WTF?!? The stock soarer antenna doesn't require power to operate. Unless you have some aftermarket item I have nfi wtf you are talking about!

Ok cool cheers for that, yeah the antenna is suppose to power up (well go up) when the radio is turned on and go down when the radio goes off. Worked on my Panasonic deck but not on the pioneer deck. Ive read somewhere that people with the 6050ub Pioneer deck (the one i bought) had probelms with the areial always been up, mine stays down which i dont mind at all as it doesnt make the car look like a radio controller car haha. But im worried when i go up in the heads and stuff that i might get stuff all reception.

I still don't get the antenna thing dude... the soarer has the antenna on the rear glass, like the demister coil, or have you got an aftermarket antenna fitted?

As for the ciggy lighter, that will be fine. THe deck only needs a +'tve wire to trip the internal relay so current draw is not an issue :-)

Yeah only reason i went the 6050 was i have a black interior so wanted the headunit to be entirely black or dark, also my gauges are blue and so will be my AC display so it fits in with the whole look (blue lcd display and lastly i wanted to run my western digital passport external hard drive off a headunit. In reality i paid for the headunit to be black and thats about it which is a waste of money as my previous headunit was bloody awesome but sadly was silver and painting it would have covered all the lettering on the button. Ahwell least the interior will look more factory now.

Not sure mate, i looked up the 4050 and it had some silver bits and pieces. The 6050 has a moving display if that helps you identify it. Also i know is as i prefer the more complex remote over the basic standard one, just look better and classier.

Soarers by standard have their antenna in the rear windows, look like demisters. The antenna power lead does in fact have a place in the install... You should get poor radio reception until you connect your antenna power to the antenna signal booster cable (this is connected to the stock setup)

Cant remember what colour the wire will be up at the dash, i run mine off of my amp power signal cable, as the booster needs to run constantly when radio is on. Fairly easy to find if you remove the back seats and patch in there.

If you've got an aftermarket antenna this probably wont matter much. But figured i'd try to help :-)

Hope i was helpful, i can't show pics as my car is getting a diff put in it at the moment so i don't have the car. heheh

Ok but from my understanding that wont matter as there is no wire coming from the headunit to hook it up to or to the antenna power. All it has is the antenna signal plug and thats it?

lol, as I was saying, probably not of much value to you if your using an after market antenna as that'd really depend on how it was installed originally... Not sure why it'd be installed, I'm fairly country and my stock one works fine as long as the booster is on.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by it doesn't have the wire.... I'm fairly sure that on pioneer head units the antenna control wire is blue (i could be wrong)... Or do you mean that the car itself has no antenna power wire?

No. the pioneer headunits only have what is called "remote" it is blue with a white stripe from memory. if you get an alpine headunit, they have both Amp remote turn on lead, and a dedicated power antenna wire. makes wiring a hell of a lot easier, especially with aftermarket amps

you may be able to rig up a relay sort of system or, hook your antenna up to the "remote wire" and the amplifier remote turn on to the accessories on the ignition loom. (best spot for the accessories is tap into the cigorette lighter power lead.)

On the note of cranking and losing the stereo:

I have only seen it on one car, a 100series landcruiser diesel at work, with an aftermarket stereo, I can have the stereo on acc and then crank and the stereo continues to work even while cranking.

Im sure its probably something to do with it being a diesel, not needing as much power to crank? (or am I thinking of it the wrong way around and it DOES need power to crank? hahah)

So yeah it would be nice, maybe a 2nd battery setup for stereo/gauges would not lose power when cranking? Probably a lot of work for not much gain though.

I'm rambling - I now return you to the schedulded broadcast.
