I think the din size is 2 1/2. You can get 1/2 size and 1 1/2 size dins. I think they're available from Mazda.

Just to clear up on what Benny said, he means you can get 1/2 and 1 1/2 din POCKETS from Mazda.

Ive only seen upto 2DIN units. What made Toyota decide to chuck in a 2.5DIN head unit is beyond me.

Or you can buy a single din headunit and a 1.5 din pocket from Mazda to go with it.

They are usually about $25 ish.

Here is a pic of how it looks. Personally, I think this combination works a lot better than some ugly double din garbage that's going around.

Good luck.

Here is a pic of the 1.5 din Mazda item in my car.

looks very nice Morgs! Bit off topic but out of curiosity isn't uncomfortable having that gauge down there? Don't get me wrong it looks sweet, but I find I'm always bumping my knee on there without anything in the way, just wondering what its like with the gauge?

Nar, it's pretty good, I decided to put it down there as I didn't wanna screw into my dash / A Pillar. :-)

My seat is usually pretty far back / down (Read: Chapel St styles :-)) and my knee doesn't hit it. Maybe you just have big knees :P

LOL Chapel St styles hehehe (the equivalent to George St styles of Sydney heheheh). I'm hoping to put in a single screen where the stock HU sits and a controller in the glovebox (or in the boot).

Hi Tim,

welcome to ALSC !

If you wanna buy a good headset at a wicked price email "Tony" at

He sells heaps of Pioneer gear (plus other stuff) and at the best prices (especially head-units) My sister just bought one off him that retails for $799, best price we saw it was in JB HI-FI at $615, we bought it off tony for $400.

He sells on ebay , he is the king

Clarion HD-X. As you can see you can get a steering mounted remote for it as well. The sound is fantastic.

That's not a bad idea Alan, he'll be able to see how everyone has done everything, and make up his on mind, seeing examples in the flesh, not in pictures.

Tim: Does your UZZ31 have an EMV? If so that'll make fitting a headunit a bit of a drama?
