I have a stock standard sound system with the touch screen EMV.

I have an Alpine DVE-5207 in the glove box and gives out pretty crap sound quality compared to the cds in the stacker.

My question is, is there any chance of making the sound quality better? Apart from 6" in the rear and the front 4". I dont want to fiddle around too much and i hear the cd stacker is prone to faulting.

Should I change the DVD player in my glovebox? Any help would be great! Cheers

I run a standard system in my UZZ30, which is 12stacker, subwoofer, standard speakers front and back.
I fitted splits, and different tweeters in the front, and it is fantastic.
Splits, and tweeters are Jcar stuff.
When Mark Paddick was alive, he kept saying the standard speakers were some of the best around.

I have the EMV in my UZZ31, and it is not a patch on my 30 system.

i plan on using the stock amp for a while with my car pc setup. as long as it can supply the speakers with 20W or more i'll be happy for a while. as ian stated jaycar speakers are on the cards for the front splits and the rear's standard sub i have not heard yet so still up in the air about that one. does your dvd player run the sound through the standard amp directly??

Hi Ian,

Yeah mine is very stock standard indeed. So perhaps just a change in speakers at the front and rear would do the trick. Not interested in putting a huge subwoofer in the back. I just want to have better sound quality but retain original look. I tend to hear some rattles in the rear when the bass thumps. :-(

However, I want to some how improve the sound quality of the dvd player in my glove box. It is connected to a couple RCA leads in the centre box.

I had an audio dude tell me to remove the tape player and replace with a headunit and hook up to an amplifier. hmm

Hi, Walter I wouldnt have a clue if it is wired up to the amp directly. But the sound quality is poorer than the cds in the stacker. Cheers

hmmm if it is running through the tape player then it would make it sound like crap. by passing that would do you a world of good. the tape player should come out and a decent head unit put in. but that still leaves you with a standard amp that you need to power up and run. unless you want to buy another amp as well.

i have in my possession a little sony box that takes rca inputs for front and rear, it also has a switch on the side that selects from 2ch to 4ch?? and remote amp on as well as ignition switched positive and battery +, these inputs go into the little sony box and the other end plugs straight into the standard plug to allow the use of the standard amp with anything that has rca outputs.

i'll try and find a pic of the unit for you.

er tape player emv cd stacker all function as one unit. if you remove the tape unit, the emv wont work.

glad you pointed that out mate :-) i knew they were one unit but it slipped my mind there for a sec.

this little box should sort out your problems tho i think.. provided the tape player has rca.. or you could splice this box into the tape players loom. so the rca would only be used by the dvd player??

I was thinking of hooking up my ipod to the emv somehow and have good sound quality at the same time. Is this at all possible? Thanks for your thoughts Walter

that little sony box has 4 rca inputs. two for your dvd and the other two for any other external audio source you may have in mind. failing that you can get another little box that will accept rca's and converts it to the radio antenna connection so you can plug that into your tape player.. but that probably is what its got now...

i haven't had anything to do with the emv units at all. ive only read a few things about them. best bet is to get yourself a non emv climate control unit and go for a nice double din dvd player :-)

Where is that little box actually located? I might give that a shot. I had looked "harewiring ipod to RCA" but I dont seem have that box that they have which is located under the passenger's seat.

I'm trying to avoid tampering around with the original set up. I hear theres a fm transmitter that hooks directly to the radio so it gives superb sound but I dont know where to source one. I have checked ebay but none avail.

:-(

that box in my soarer was located behind the minidisk stacker and smashed 5 inch lcd screen. so if i'm not mistaken its not a standard item, but rather one that gets put in when they comply the cars for aus use.

which box under the passenger seat are you talking about mate?

you can buy one from yahoo auctions japan. just search for sony xa105-t, you can go to jaycar for little things like that mate. they have plug in bluetooth transmitters as well as fm transmitters and anything else you can think of really. lol.

hope that helps.

edit: i have just read soem stuff about hardwiring ipods to standard systems and it seems as tho some systems can be utilized to control the ipod directly. and even assign playlists to different slots in the stacker. very interesting :-)

or you could go and do what i have just done and build youself a nice little powerful double din car pc :-)

I might check up on JayCar actually. Never heard of the bluetooth transmitters. The Fm direct adapter i speak of apparently gives CD quality? Refer to this site:

http://www.myradiostore.com/fmmodulators/fm-direct-sa10112.html

I'll have a look at that bluetooth transmitter. I did check up for that Sony XA105-t and looks ok. Might go ask the boys of JayCars :-) Cheers again Walter

So do you think if I use that little adapter that connects directly to the cars radio then I should get good sound from my Ipod? If so then I would then proceed to upgrading the rear speakers and perhaps the front too. :-)

the xa105-t?? yes if you can solder the radio's wires directly to the loom (cut off radio plug and solder the wires to the other plug coming out of xa105-t, they should be the same colours so wont be too hard) then yeah should be great sound. you can plug your dvd into a pair of rca's and the ipod to the other using an rca cable that terminates to a 3.5mm audio jack.

i am unsure of all of this as the volume knob and on off button for the radio are located remotely. so one problem might be that you would get interference from the signals coming out, since the radio needs to be on to power the amp on...... although my little box power's on the amp even when there is nothing connected.. i'll get back to you on wether it powers the amp itself, it does have a remote amp on wire input as well.....

back to the point. if it powers the amp on itself then you need to turn the radio off to get good sound from your dvd or ipod, remember there will be three different sources of signal if you go with way so only one must be used at anytime. or it would sound rather funky indeed.

im assuming the dvd player you have is not a standard item??

all these connections are starting to get confusing!!! hahahaha

:-) Yes the dvd is in the glovebox and was part of the car when it was imported in Melbourne a month ago. Everything runs off the standard amp as it turns out, because my dvd player's volume is controlled by the standard knob on the right of the EMV. So its defintely connected to the amp. It has 2 RCA cables in the centre box one being video and another being audio which is rather odd, because audio has 2 RCA's.

Anyway the sound quality just isnt up to the cd stacker in the boot. I would only want to power the FM Direct adapter for the ipod. The radio I have sucks because it cant pick up 101.9 FM. I love Hamish and Andy :-(

well therin lies some of your problem if your dvd player is only puttin out one channel for the audio and one for video. try and see if there is a loose rca somewhere in your dash. have you got any pics of this setup? would help a great deal in trying to figure out your system.

it could possibly be that only one rca is used from the dvd player as the other one is used by one channel of the tape player/radio, hence you have crap sound from radio and dvd player but the stacker which sits on top of the amp runs both channels and so sound is twice as good. ?

Ken it sounds as if they used the AV connectors(located under gear plate drink holder end)to connect your DVD as it is mono sound up to 96 this could be why it sounds a bit dull.

Hope you lads can help me out :-)
