Benny, BSM - very nice.. i'd like to hear them sometime!

Murray, are you referring to purps, who had the jaycar system in the laser? - u forgot to mention he also used a full walled setup with 8 12" subs and 10 amps, not to mention the 10 batteries!!! also, there hasn't been any serious SPL competition at summernats in years.. from memory he only got in the mid 150s..

I dont get your point exactly daniel? All of the loudest cars are full walls. Admittedly his effort wasnt on a world standard, but still won then. It was also on the old meter which reads higher than the new termlab.

Serious SPL competition at summernats? explain please. The dbdrag guys ran the comp this year, which is the world recognised format, in which i took out street A with a 148.6 in my civic.

Sorry, but what has all this got to do with:

Anthony Wah Day wrote on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 10:32 pm:

Hi guys and gals,

Was wondering if anyone knew or has pictures of other soarers having 2x sub's in the boot, the standard system is good, but iam getting tied of the crappy bass.

Or can someone help me in some fibre glass work in the book (instructions)

Thanks

I'm a culprit as well.

What has db got to do with good speakers/amps anyway?

lol.. fair call Benny

Anthony, I have a friend who is currently in the process of doing a custom install in his soarer. It'll be fibreglassed in the side of the boot, using a 10" square solobaric sub.. i'll see if he can get some pics/instructions for you..

To address the original quetion;
If you want good , quality, sound then put a good 10" sub in the parcel shelf and power it with a bit more than the stock power amp.
If you want huge sound levels or boom box then put a couple of big subs in the boot. This does not constitute quality sound but it will be loud.

Daniel, I'm glad you use the term 'free air' loosely 'cos there aint no other way.

...and for all you budding eletronics engineers;
What is the difference between an infinite baffle and a relatively small speaker in a 200 litre box in engineering terms?
The answer is NONE.
So, no, Im not moving away from calling the soarer setup an infinite baffle, just giving an easier way to apply engineering principles to the problem of finding a suitable speaker for use as a Soarer sub. Most decent speakers will have a spec for Vas, look for one where that figure is large and Qms also relatively large (above 3.0)

...and now for some more fun

Quote;
but its a hard pill to swallow when you want to challenge jaycar to the likes of kicker, soundstream, DD, earthquate, mcintosh, etc..

There is one of those that is a dead simple challenge for the Jaycar amp...IT IS THE SAME AMP so yes i do expect the Response AA0240 to perform rather well in comparison to exactly the same amp.

I don't mean to sound like a "know-it-all", but this isn't the same "Reebok's and Nike are made in the same factory" type of thing that everyone's mum used to use on kids when we were in high school is it? I mean, how do you know that they are made in the same factory, then just re-covered? It's not like it is public knowledge?

Or have you opened one of each up and they are the same inside? Same board, same resistors and coils etc? Exactly the same to look at to the point where once you have the top off, you can't tell the difference by looking at the circuitry? I would find it easy to understand that the companies are owned by the same parent company, but that doesn't mean they are the same amp.

For example Lamborghini is owned by Renault or some company like that, I can't remember which one, but that doesn't mean that a Renault is a Lamborghini with a different shell.

I don't know, I could be wrong, I have never looked in to this at all, so Mark could just say "Yes Troy, I have opened them and they are identical" and then I would believe it completely, but at the moment, sorry, I am still sitting on the fence with this one. BTW, I am not saying I am right, and I am definitely not saying Mark is wrong, I just want to know if it is really true or not.

I have nothing but respect for Mark's knowledge.

If any one like to have a great sound and quality, have a listen to Benny system.
This is a top system and the sub works hard and sounds great.

Troy,
they are electronically identical. Made in the same factory to the same spec. Different top panel and logo and different heatsink design to disguise the two.

an infinite baffle and a 200 litre box isn't going to be too different caus a 200 litre box is so big that it might as well be an infinite baffle setup.. compare the performance of a 10" sub in a 30litre box with a 200litre box... thats more accurate for what i'm trying to say

i know that the 'rumour' is that jaycar amps come from the family of soundstream. I'm yet to see 100% proof of the two next to each other with covers off, so i remain sceptical until i do. i'm not doubting you, just find it hard to believe till i see it...

I didn't believe it either because of the price difference but I've seen the proof. Just goes to show how much advertising really costs. Jaycar don't spend advertising dollars.
I've yet to try them as a main amp but as a sub amp they're as good as any.

From an electronic engineering point of view an infinite baffle and a very large box are equivalent, making it easier to use the Thielle/Small parameters often quoted by speaker manufacturers and used in most software design programs. The most common software doesn't cover infinite baffle designs but will do a resonable job if you assume a very large box design.

I have to agree with Mark about the quality of Jaycar gear. I have used there subs and amps for about 8 years. The build quality is excellent and the VALUE.

When I was younger (Re: Teenager)I used to build insane car stereo's to impress my mates. They alway commented on how loud AND CLEAR the systems where. Then when I told them how much the system costs they couldn't believe it. Nor could they believe that the system was made up of Jaycar components.

Anyway, I have heard the Jaycar Response Carbon 10" sub and for the $$$ cost it is an exceptional sub in both DB levels and sound clarity.

Why wast money with big name brand speakers and amps to achieve the same result???

Go and get the Carbon 10" sub from Jaycar with the AA0240 amp.

Also has anyone tried to fit one of these subs into the stock position?

I've posted pics before of the Jaycar 10' in my parcel shelf. Fits with a bit of work. Sounds great.

The amps should be available at any Jaycar store. Let me know if you want one.

Nice job Paul!

im sorry guys but buying any car audio in australia is a joke.

and i have to see in my personal experience you cant get the same quality out of free air sub as you can out of a enclosed sub.

best thing to do is go on ebay america and pick up a W7 or a nice rockford fosgate amp and you will get twice the power for the same price...

http://cgi.ebay.com/JL-AUDIO-12W7-12-Car-Subwoofer-Sub-750W-RMS-NEW-W7-12_W0QQitemZ5810668288QQcateg oryZ39776QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

that will destroy anything you will get here for $800....

And the Jaycar amp for $299 will be every bit as good.
Ditto the 10" sub and it's an ideal parcel shelf sub. The sub may not be as good but it's not bad and you can't use a sealed box sub unless you want to move the fuel tank or put up with delayed bass.
That sub and 500WRMS amp to drive it will cost you $428 retail.

I purchased this
htthttp://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=CS2340&CATID=15&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeO nly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=831p:// subwoofer from Jaycar to replace the damaged one in my Celsior.
As I expected, the factory amp is not powerful enough to drive it sufficiently.
What do you guys recommend I do to drive this subwoofer?
Do you recommend an amp from Jaycar that would be appropriate Mark?
How should I wire the amp to avoid the "delay" that I have read about?
Thanks
