Having removed my factory stereo (tape and radio) and stacker, i found i had an amp under the stacker. I have left this alone and started installing a new jvc headunit - there are 4 plugs that cam out of the factory head unit. 3 are white and one is blue.
I have found power, ground and ignition but need to know which are the front and rear speaker wires - my car has no factory sub and is basic TT.

Thanks, but i still cant figure out the speaker wires as i have - and + for each speaker (8 wires in total) coming out the back of my new unit but the factory plug only has 4 wires - FL FR RL RR.

The plug from the factory head unit to the amplifier has 15 pins. As you have observed there is a + for each speaker and a COMMON - or ground. (PIN 11). The wiring goes back to the amp and from the amp there are + and - connections for each speaker.
As you have a different head unit, it will not function in the same manner, so you have to improvise. I would suggest that you look for a separate connection from the head unit to an amplifier (some have a separate set of connectors). If you don't have this you may need to buy a different AMP, that is compatible with you head unit and run new wiring out to each speaker (this is the safe and time consuming route)
Alternatively you can try to connect all 4 speaker ground terminals together, but this may cause your amp to 'blow', this is the quick and risky route.
Typically A/V units for vehicles use two separate stereo amplifiers (Integrated Circuits). In some case you may find that the ground is common, but this is not always the case.
You can verify by checking a circuit diagram for your head unit or 'open it up and have a good look see'.
