Hi guys
Looking at getting some aftermarket speakers very soon. I'm going for a full Soundstream system. I'm tossing up between 2 way 4" coaxial's or 4" splits for the front. I'd get splits but there's not a big range available for 4" splits. As the 2 ways have a tweeter, would there be much difference between these and 4" splits? Was maybe thinking even getting the 4" coaxial's and just buying some Soundstream tweeters. Would this work? My amp only has 4 channels..
Also gonna throw some 6.5" coaxial's in the rear. The 4" and 6.5" coaxial's are rated at 120wrms @ 3ohm but my Soundstream amp doesn't rate at 3ohms. It rates at 1ohm/230x4 ,2ohm/160x4 & 4ohm/100x4. Would the speakers work with the amp even though it doesn't rate at 3ohm?

That amp will be fine running those speakers.
I'd really try to get some splits over coaxials so the tweeters can be mounted in the factory position. You always want tweeters to be closer to you as high frequencies are directional.
What is Soundstream gear like? I've always thought they were a Supercheap auto brand?

Yeah they are a supercheap and jb hifi brand. I dont like them at all hearing mates cars. I would be going either kenwood or pioneer on a budget, if your got more cash then Alpine and Focal.

I don't think Soundstream are a supercheap brand haha. They don't sell them at JB or supercheap. They sell them at SSV (Sound Street & Vision). They are priced 2-3x more than Kenwood

Im willing to spend the money so money is not really an issue. But i dont want to be spending 3-400 on a pair of coaxials. I thought soundstream were fairly decent speakers. I went into JB the other day and listened to some kicker 6" coaxials and they sounded great. They are prices as roughly $110 on ryda.com.au and the soundstreams $190. So if price is anything to go by they will sound amazing

they might have improved their stuff but its a lesson learnt by me a few years ago. focal are the go if you want awesome sound and dont mind spending the cash. never listened to kicker gear, i tend to stay away from any autobarn or supercheap, jb hifi or wow stuff, but if i must go brand names from those stores it would have to be kenwood.
i would like to see some yamaha car audio gear come out. that would definitely take my interest.

Warren Pioneer basalt rock speakers sound amazing. I don't know if they are available in 4" though, you'd have to check. Their cheap series of speakers and amps give Pioneer a crap name though, but top line stuff is great and very reasonably priced.
bahahaha by the way that hummer is oozing gayness, screens in the door? let alone 3 of them? cmon man.. thats almost as gay as screens in the boot.

Um anyone can knock up a promo car, i mean for a audio company youd think logically they would build a SPL car to promote their products rather than say a drift car which has nothing to do with their product.
And yes here in SA you can get them at some supercheap stores aswell as all JB hifi. Do not rate them at all.
Like Walter said Kenwood have been in the game for ages and know a thing or two where as sound stream is the flashy gimic crap sold pretty much at your local super market. Kenwood is no way flash but is pretty good gear.
I would pretty much go anything rather than soundstream. JL audio, JBL, Orion, Cadence.
Focal sounds crazy good, people love my sterio set up as its so balanced its unbelievable. Quality is awesome and research adn evelopment has brought the good from Focal.

Skip on soundstream, i had them in my last car and i probably wouldnt go back to them. Just did the stereo in my soarer in the last few weeks, and put the new alpine type s in it, 4 inch in the front and 5 1/2 inch in the back and a 1200 watt sub in the boot. couldnt be happier with the result. what ever you choose tho, Just make sure you dont run the standard wiring that is already in the car, or even the stuff that comes with the speakers. spend the extra $50 and get some good cable, makes a huge difference!

As a direct price comparison, why not compare the 'target buy' speaker with one from the same manufacturer as in your car.
Mostly the Soarers have Panasonic (Matsushita) equipment, with the less common Nakamichi brand.
So if Speaker A is $50 and the Panasonic is $65, then you are going down market (generally speaking).
Whatever you buy, don't replace your speakers with ones that need a whole lot more power from an amplifier to drive them, or else you get very 'thin' or 'weak' sound, because the OEM Amp isn't up to the job.

Oh there is an OEM amp? I thought everything was run off the stock headunit.
Anyway I will be getting an amp with which ever speakers I get because I am looking for some really loud, crystal clear speakers.
Still not sure what speakers to get though. I was looking at getting the same branded front 4" & rear 6.5" speakers and amp. I thought Soundstream Tarantula's would be good because they are one of the most expensive speakers at ryda.com.au
Can someone provide me which speakers I should get from ryda.com.au that are the same brand 4" fronts, 6.5" rears and amp.

Look into Eclipse as i also forgot to mention them. Very good stuff back 2-3 years ago, dont know now put i would be confident they still would be awesome noe. They have good amps, great subs and pretty decent speakers aswell so you could go all Eclipse.

I have decided on Alpine type R 6.5" 2 ways for the rear however I want the same speakers on the front. But I can't find any Type R's in 4". The Type S comes in 4", would these go well with the Typr R 6.5" as the rear would be 100RMS and front only 45RMS.
