Hi All,

I have and EMV setup and would like to replace the tape deck with a DVD player. I realise the all the options(i.e. radio, cd stacker, etc) are on the unit. But i'm planning to wire in the DVD player (with radio, cd capability) into the TV tuner so i dont really need the other funtion on the tape deck unit if i constantly use the TV input.

Any comments on this? is it possible?

Cheers.

you need the tape deck for the emv to work properly. you can move it somewhere else though..

Junk ALL the old Soarer hifi - keep the EMV screen and connect the new hifi/DVD player to the speakers. Use an RGB+sync converter to connect video from the DVD player to the EMV screen......nope I didn't think you would want to do that :-)

Theres also the option of removing the emv completely, obtaining the air con control unit from a non emv soarer, connecting it to the same loom with some modifications (found on this site somewhere) and putting an aftermarket dvd.

Yeah i'm thinking of doing this later in the year.
Will ANY aircon unit do (are they all the same)?
Or are there differences?

The problem you will have in keeping the EMV but removing the tape deck is the button to select the TV input is on the deck :-)

Its possible you could select the TV while the deck is connected and it will stay on that input when its removed, but even so if you ever have a flat/disconnected battery youre going to have to reconnect the deck to get the TV back....

So IF I were to move the tape deck into the glovebox, and make a nice little frame n such for it, I could pop in an aftermarket DVD Headunit and just hook it up to the TV input of the EMV?

After upgrading myself 2 years ago to a new 7" DVD Screen, I haven't looked back. Unfortunately the EMV is old technology now.

You can't beat the clarity of a new DVD Screen and the Functionality (ie Ipods, Bluetooth, etc)

Trent, would you mind PM'ing me (when you get a sec) about the steps you took doing the conversion from EMV to the 7" screen?
