Hey all,

Basically I would like to know if it is possible to be able to watch a DVD while driving. Not so much for me, but my passenger.

Currently the screen says its off for safety reasons.

What I have noticed is that when ever I have the handbrake up, it shows the video. So when I have pulled up for the lights, I just wack up the handbrake and then the video comes on straight away.

This seems to be the only thing that stops the video from showing when the car is in drive.

If I am actually driving and I lift up the handbrake just the tinyest bit (before I hear a click), the video comes on to my surprise (handbrake alert is on). I can manage to have the video showing while I am driving, but it is really not ideal to hold the handbrake up so slightly.

If I put the handbrake up to hear the first click the handbrake holds up itself and the video comes on. I just want to know if this will affect my handbrake in any way. To me it's obvious you should not drive around with your handbrake up, but I am only interested because with the first click of the handbrake up, even when the car is in drive and I am not acceleration, the car moves forwards anyway. For the car to move forwards (from stationary) without applying the accelerator, it would imply to me that the handbrake is not going to be affected if I leave it up while driving (even though the handbrake alert is on).

Can someone please let me know if I should not have the handbrake at all (even though its the first click) regardless if it doesnt have an affect in stopping the car from moving forwards.

I only tested this once so the handbrake should still be in good condition and not broken.

Is there another way to watch a DVD while driving?

Cheers,
Andrew

is it a factory or aftermarket headunit. if it is a factory, i don't have a clue, however, if it is an aftermarket headunit, there is a wire, normally a screen mute wire, i can't remember the specific name, but this wire needs to be grounded in order for the screen to show a movie. with my Alpine unit, i just unbolted one of the screws going into bare metal, and grounded the wire, now the screen and entire unit functionality remains perfect all the time

Just put a normal switch in the wire to the handbrake switch. Then flick this switch to watch the dvd, and flick it again to re-activate the 'safety' system should you need it.

look in the owner's manual for the head unit, and see if there is a diagram for what wire is what in the plug that goes into it. if you have a model number you should be able to find this online as well. then connect the wire that is hooked up to the handbrake switch to the ignition switched power that runs the head unit. that way the car will not start beeping, the cruise control will work (it switches off when the handbrake is up), and you can watch dvd's
