Well I've finally given up on my stock head unit and I've got a new deck to replace it. Only thing is I'm not planning to go fully sick George St. doof styles and wanna keep the factory amps and sub. The only thing I may upgrade other than the head unit are the front speakers (only when I can find a set of 4" speakers that are better than the factory set up).
Looking through the installation manual and the provided wiring, I've got the usuals of power, ground, speaker wires etc. BUT how the hell do I figure out the wiring to the amps? The stock deck has 3 connectors going into the head unit (located at the bottom of the deck) and I have no clue as to where to connect these wires.
I've also been around to places to ask how much to install it and I've been quoted between $200~$700 (wtf)... am I being taken on a ride or does it sound right?

One plug is for power and pre-amp outputs to the stock 4-channel amp; these can be wired to the new head unit (see Soarer wiring diagrams for pinouts).
The second plug is for the stacker....forget that with a new head unit although it is probably an IP Bus so could be used with the right head unit. If I could find specs for the IP Bus I could probably work it out but so far i can't find them.
The third plug is for the factory sub amp. The factory amp requires a differential drive from the head unit. As far as I know no aftermarket headunits have this so you will need a line level phase splitter or a new sub amp.

Connection on the cheap would be about $200. The sky is the limit from there depending on which leads, fuses and whatnot you want for your speakers and amps.
Thanks Benny, I was going to budget up to around $300 if possible. Would you know any places that will install Alpine head units? I know that they advise to get the deck installed at places that are certified by Alpine, the only place that I know is Precision Installs (off the top of my head).

Jose, Alpine is just like any other unit to install! I have done a full alpine install on my two other car's before I had the Soarer! Have a go and follow Mark's advise! I remember seeing the Toyota radio lead adaptor's at repco that works with the standard Toyota decks, but I do not know if it will fit the Soarer one!

Don't bother looking for Soarer adaptors...you won't find any anywhere. The best way is to get a spare harness and modify it. Keep the plugs for the standard head unit (with enough wire to join on to) as these are VERY hard to find if you ever want to return to stock.
