Ok. So I have a stock soarer.
It has an old jvc headunit from japan that has no aux in in car. There is a unit in the boot which might have aux in but that is not useful for mp3 playing in car.
It is japanese so the fm has not been expanded.
I have stock speakers. I believe POV pack setup...so I guess a limited amp..unless something was installed when the headunit went in.
My rear speakers cones have broken I believe.. they rattle with certain bass at higher volumes.
My front speakers are fine for me. Good enough sound quality for me.
I would probably be cool with close to stock rear speakers if I am fine with the stock front speakers. My demands for quality audio are minimal as most audio seems ok to me. So I guess a couple of 10-20 dollar speakers will replace the stocks in the back right?
I've read that it takes a bit of effort to replace the rear speakers. I have no experience. And something about needing to make a new holder as it breaks on removal?
Because I will probably need assistance to do the job it is a bit weird that the labor will cost more than the speakers....It might be an idea to get better speakers?
But if I get better speakers I will probably need a new amp. Also if I get a new amp I should replace the old headunit while I am there.
Also if I am getting a new amp I should get new, better front speakers.
A simple option is for me to change the back speakers cheaply, and get a fm transmitting unit for 40 bucks that will transfer my mp3/ipod music to the fm of my non-auxin head unit.
And then just live with not having the extra fm channels. I am guessing if I am gonna bother to put an fm expander in, I might as well change the headunit to an 2nd hand aus unit with proper FM and aux in.

Bah, you can get a pretty damn good head unit/amp/rear speaker combo set with USB and/or SD now for under $500. Install it yourself, then chuck the old stuff in the bin and wonder at your own awesomeness for completing a project. Its not very difficult - I suck with electrics and I managed it. Give yourself a full day.
