Just wondering if anyone knows if the antenna in the 1991 V8 with EMV goes through any sort of electronic amplifier before going into the radio module?

Hi Dave, so before going into the tv/radio module under the rear seat, there's another signal amplifier ?? or the tv/radio module IS the amplifier?
I just need to make sure nothing is going to interfere with the antenna's signal before it gets to where i want it :-)
If it does, then i may need to bypass it.

On A 91 antenna amp is just above center of rear window, just pull head lining down there (clips so it will pop down).
What are you changing Chris ?

I'm building a CarPC, and am incorporating a DAB+ radio module. Supposedly the Antenna amp may filter out the DAB+ frequency, so if i find i don't get a good enough signal, i'll have to bypass the amplifier.
Thanks for the info..

Chris, use on of the rear tv antenna and amplifier. I have used that method in the past for DAB .

Cool, thanks for the info Luke. Didn't really want to go pulling at the head lining :-)

Well when the car is on i don't get any reception, but when it is off, i'm pretty sure i do (but no sound to check due to car being off)
How do i bypass the antenna?
And Luke, what were you actually trying to say there?

I can see 2 little boxes under the hood lining, one on the left which says something about magnetic sensor(GPS?) and another one on the right which seems to have a few wires leading to and from it.. but i can't see if it's got radio antenna leads going in/out, would this be the antenna amp? would it be as easy as cutting the power to it? if so, where does the power come from and what's the best way to 'cut' it without making it useless in the future?

sorry Luke.. one of the tv antenna and amplifier?
I've currently got the antenna unplugged from the radio module and plugged into the DAB module, and i think i only get reception when the car is off.

Or maybe i have it wrong, and i need to enable the amplifier for it to work, but when the car was off i was able to scan 30+ stations, with it on, i got none..

hrmm.. i'm not sure what's going on now.. last night i was scanning stations with the car running, but today.. nothing.
Does anyone know how i can check if the stock antenna amplifier is working or not? IF not, how can i activate it?
FM works (though i don't know how well) but DAB i get a high signal error count..
Cheers

Chris,

The Soarer TV antennas cover both the VHF and UHF bands as Japan still used both bands for TV reception.

The VHF part thus covers the DAB bands - hence my using one of the four TV antenna in the rear screen with its TV antenna amplifier found near the Fuel ECU area.

And turns out hopefully don't need to do anything after all..
I've done some fiddling with cables and atm i've got the signal error down from 95 to 20 odd under the carport.. :-)

Chris, i have DAB+in my car and like yourself scan 30+ stations, but you need the signal strength for it to play there is no in between (same as dig TV,also i have found LEDs can swamp the signal.
But its all worth doing for better than CD sound I still cannot get over the how clear it sounds and the bass oh the bass.

DAMNIT.. still no good..
Dave do you know how to make sure the amplifier is activated, and if it's not, activate it?
Or bypass it?
How have you done it, or do you have an aftermarket antenna?

Have you any high power leds running?

OK,1 you may be on the fringe for DAB+ so it may be harder to get a good signal.
2 aerial should be vertical radio on back window is horizontal Lukes idea to use tv aerial is your best bet.
LCD is fine its just h/light, running lights, leds can stop DAB+ dead.
My aerial is a DAB pure highway , go to dabonwheels UK EBAY lots of aerials there for DAB.

how/where do i connect to the TV aerial?
I've checked my coverage and i'm well within the 'good' zone.
did you use an adapter or something to connect the pure highway antenna? it has a different plug on it doesn't it?

Well it's definitely the antenna, i connected a piece of wire and if i hold it up about a foot above the car, i get perfect reception.
But if i run it through the car, it's very patchy,(mostly not working), i guess i'll have to try a DAB antenna and hope it works ok.
