Alistair.

I believe you are correct. It is not a capacitive touch. But neither are the avics at over twice the price (atleast not the f900bt. I have one).

The only tablet ive seen mounted in any car at this point is a rediculously big asus one mounted in my mates prius taxi.

My next taxi will be a camry hybrid. It already has bluetooth audio input aswell as bluetooth hands free, 3.5mm in and reverse cam ect ect. It all works so brilliantly that I actually dont want to replace the head unit in it at all, So im actually leaning towards a tablet installation in it (especially if it supports audio over bluetooth) so that the tablet can be easily installed and removed so its not there when I have other ppl driving it ect. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how it all sounds when the subs ect go in. If it still sounds great I guess i'll keep the std head unit..If not I might be buying an Idroid

Nahh, I made 450rwhp out of the soarer on 24psi then thought it would be a good idea to push 50psi down its throat until I got defected, then fried a set of rings on the way to visit the engineer.........noww the soarers being parted out :-( lol

Check this video out Harley, looks like exactly what you need.

Depending how your new Camery's dash is set out I think it's definately acheivable.

In 2012 I just cannot even comprehend why stereo manufacturers are still building resistive touchscreens into their units, considering $199 android tablets have capactive. Maybe they want to retain usability if the driver is wearing gloves?

The same situation plagues car PC users, I don't know of any capactive 7" Double Din screens available.

Thats extremely interesting Alistair. I left them a comment asking if they produce anything for 2010 camrys. Hopefully they do, otherwise ill be looking at fabricating some kind of mount for it.

I know exactly where you are coming from. Its rediculous that I could convert my ford system into a capacitive touch screen, but theres nothing available for a more universal setup in this day and age.

Really? Capacitive touch screens that will mount easily to 2din, and can connect to USB for the touch screen controller?

I know there are plenty of screens floating around but I thought they were bare screens ready to be implemented into devices like tablets.

yes, direct from the manufacturer, supplies to companies tha make the capacitive touch tabs. the border margins are slightly bigger but fit within a double din slot.

this is the cheapest capacitive touch screen i can find in a double din.

hey walter you have links to the screens you can get?

the only issue is audio out needs rca front left right back left right and sub channel. hmmmmm

car audio is behind the times man, needs to use single hdmi cable to amp, and amp figures it out, like a home theatre amp

That screen looks good Dutch. Would be great if it played well with the MK802, my guess is the screen will require windows drivers to work. The MK802 and other Android systems work with keyboards and mice, so if these screen was detected as a mouse then it could be an excellent solution. Does it have a GPS antenna?

powering the carputers is a pita. You are forced to use extremely sensitive power supplies that are very tempremental. Thats why I pulled the carputer out of my taxi..kept blowing the power supplies at $80 a pop. It got old fast.

something is wrong if you kept popping them PSU's mate. im only on my second one if 3 years. due to me ripping a couple of caps from the old one as i was getting a bit rough with it. lol

also there are cheaper (like $2 cheaper) chinese copies of psu's, always buy the ones that have PICO stamped onto some of the parts.

no i dont have a link to the touchscreens as i was dealing with the manufacturer directly. over the phone. i have a spec sheet somewhere tho.

i have a AMD sapphire mini itx mobo dual core 1,6ghz APU with hdmi, dvi and vga with dual screen functionality. 7.1 surround. 2 amps. one 5 channel digi and a 4 channel. room correction software so the sound isnt delayed when the subs hit.

i like these ideas. but honestly i dont see the point of spending that coin on a unit when you can build your own OK (still all over any android BS) you can dual boot android 4.0 if you want. (ive done it, fast, but meh, i liked centrafuse and win7 ultimate) and the flexibility of having a windows comp for all your tuning software and digi gauges (aftermarket computer ie haltech ;) ive never considered anything else since my carpc install. apart from carpc upgrades :-) which i have now completed. usb3, bluetooth 4, wireless N, SSD, custom case etc. i have a total of 560gb of space on my carpc. and it is good enough to run street fighter Vs tekken at 60fps.

couple the carpc with a fusion brain and the sky is the limit. you can delete the climate control, extend the screen up and have the brain with touchscreen buttons to control the climate, thermo's whatever :-)

Walter, It could have something to do with the rest of the taxi systems. They caused absolute havoc with the first 2 gens of prius'. I had to power a full pc for it too as the only mobo I could find with the gpu I needed to support the custom timings was a little power hungry, at the best of times the psu would sit there constantly retrying to fire it all up until it eventually got lucky. Might have been a different case if it was in my soarer or any other non taxi. But atleast for me, it was something not worth pursuing any further

theres yer problem then. power hungry desktop stuff. my sapphire board uses 27W and the one i am building for another member chews only 9W at idle. fanless etc. some of these mini itx boards have built in 12v power supply on the mobo. i wouldnt even bother with anything but mini itx dual core boards.
