Hi all,
I just picked up a Soarer last week, it had a double DIN DVD player installed.
I don't ever see myself playing DVD's in it so I thought what else can be done?
I pulled it apart to find some RCA cables labelled AV in. I grabbed a composite apple TV out cable and plugged it in. It worked great for audio and video files but I wanted a way to display GPS and music track info.
After jailbreaking my phone I installed SBRotator 5 which allows me to make the springboard (all the icons) landscape and lock the rotation there.
I also installed Display Out which allows me to mirror every iPhone function to the 7" Display in the car.
My initial goal was to be able to play audio through the car speakers using the iPhone to control the tracks whilst also charging the iPhone.
This solution has achieved that goal with the added bonus of being able to display GPS maps (or anything else) on the 7" screen.
I just uploaded a video to youtube showing a demonstration.

Yeah that would be great, basically impossible though.
The only possible way is to run a car PC, run Veency on the iphone which allows the iphone to be controlled via a web browser running on the car PC. And even then it would probably be a bit laggy and the screen mirroring (which would be happening over wifi) would probably be too slow for decent useability.
Nice work Alistair. Has anyone figured out how to capture the touch screen inputs from Toyota, duplicating the key presses and sending them elsewhere? Ideally, send them as Bluetooth "keyboard" or similar to the iPhone... The iPhone could then also be controlled from the EMV...

There is a solution called Mimics, but it requires a $230 Lilliput screen and the Mimics module for about another $200.
I have ditched my iPhone and am now using Android, at present there is no way to replicate Android onto the screen so I will be going down the route of a custom building my own Android stereo.
It will consist of a small Android PC, probably a MK802 which is a small USB sized Android PC running the latest ICS software. A 7” touchscreen to control the Android System, ICS currently supports Bluetooth/USB keyboards so that’s covered, just need a PC compatible touchscreen that presents mouse clicks to the system.
The other option is to just find a good sized 7” android tablet running ICS and that has GPS and mount that in place of the current stereo, I can use a small amplifier to boost the 3.5mm audio output. At this stage however I cannot find a 7” tablet that runs ICS and has GPS.

The new Google Nexus 7 tablet has GPS I believe, and is only $199. I'm thinking about hooking one up to my existing stereo, and just using that for media playback and GPS navigation.

Yeah, it looks really nice. It's absolutely perfect to just attach to a nice mount and then hook it up to the existing stereo in a Soarer. I think I'll be placing my pre-order soon!
As for the price, I was just going by the American prices of $199 for 8GB, and $249 for 16GB. Here in Canada, it's $209 for 8GB, and $259 for 16GB.

awesome units if you only want media and web surfing. some g-sensor apps etc. would be nice if aftermarket ECU manufacturers started coding their tuning software to run on these
