Some more information might assist, Jack.

What speakers? What sort of "bang"? Under what circumstances does the bang occur, low volume, high volume? What HU and system do you have?

Turn the volume control knob anti clockwise and stop listening to heavy metal??

Maybe speakers are loose or broken?? Amp dead?? loose wiring connection, or broken wire.

Let the prisoner out of the boot!

Seriously though, that is a fairly useless question due to the lack of added information.

Please doctor, I am unwell - fix me!

OK I have the same sort of issue, only happens when it is hot, as in after the car has been sitting in the sun all day. Any volume at all gives me a massive thud sound that will cause the rearview mirror to vibrate in time.at about a half second interval. turn it off and on and it will still happen. seems to be located at the sub in the parcel shelf. Is heat related as the bloke I bought the car off says it only happens in summer. Any ideas?

There are two things which come to mind, Philip. One is that the foam surround on the sub is softening when it's hot (it would be VERY hot under the parcel shelf) allowing the voice coil to bang around in its housing, which is very bad for the speaker and will wreck it. The second is that your sub amp is on the way out and not producing enough power, or the wrong sort of power, which again, is not at all good for the voice coil. I'd be switching the sub off altogether until the cause is isolated (pull the wiring to it).

These speakers are approaching 20 years old, and live in a bad environment for speaker longevity, especially the rear speakers. I have a '97 model, and my rear speakers were banging and crackling, when I took parcel shelf off, I found that the speaker foams (the rubber ring which supports the cone) were totally shot. While they can be repaired, it's cheaper and easier just to replace the speakers. Might be different for the sub, but it's a lot of mucking around to refoam any speaker, and the kits for a 10" (provided you can even find one suitable for the Soarer sub) would be $30-40.

I'm thinking of refoaming my rear speakers, but only for practice, maybe using them in a small non-car project later. The refoaming kits are somewhat cheaper for 6.5" speakers.
