1" diameter to be safe, no reason to have massive tweeters. Most tweeters can be fitted anywhere so shouldnt have an issue getting them in.

I fitted Kenwood 4" splits, the tweeter that came with it fitted perfectly. Wasn't very big- not much different to standard tweeter. I'd say around the inch, a fairly common size I'd suggest for car tweeters, my back tweeters (with 6.5" splits) a similar size. You don't need much of the hardware that comes with an aftermarket tweeter, and certainly don't need the grille as you have one on door frame cover.

The sound is great in my car- the Kenwoods came with a proper crossover, and the woofers sound good too. This speaker is discontinued, I got one of the last sets around although a few popped up on Ebay (I had a standing search going). The woofers looked a bit ordinary (made in Indonesia) but as mentioned, sound good, an improvement on the standard speakers (and rated at quite a bit more power).

I retrospect though I'd have gone for cheaper components given the Kenwood setup was around $120 delivered. Woofers can be had for $10-10 each from Parts Express and there are a great many cheap but reasonable tweeters available (but post from US is exorbitant). I suspect a good part of the Kenwood price was in the crossovers.
