Hi all, finally got around to joining the new forum!
I was hearing a crackling noise whenever I turned the volume dial up or down, mainly coming from the right side speakers. After a while(month) the crackling stopped, but I just noticed yesterday that the right hand side speakers(front and rear) are MUCH quieter than the left. I have checked the balance on the EMV but all is well there, so I believe the problem may be the knob. Is there any repair procedure for the knob or is it a (bin and get another one) solution? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

No it is not the volume control. This is a digital control with only one pot controlling overall volume. It WILL be the radio receiver with a sh*tload of faulty capacitors. I can do an exchange unit for $150 or with Vlads' radio mod fitted for $500. (postage included for return trip). See here for radio mod details; http://members.westnet.com.au/web/rbaird/Vlad%20FM%20EMV%20mod.htm
It is also possible for the fault to be the main 4ch amp (under stacker) but not as likely. ($50 exchange).

Thanks Mark, usual quick reply! Radio receiver is the one under the back seat yes? Any way of telling which one(receiver or amp), so I know what to send you?
Nathan
Edit: I have only noticed the problem with listening to CD, havent yet checked if problem is also radio/tape. Will check tonight

Yes, radio and DSP units are under passenger side rear seat. It is possible (not likely) that it is the DSP rather than the radio. The problem usually exists on all audio inputs, but you never know . With volume completely off you should be able to hear hiss in all four speakers if you get close enough. If not it is the amp that is faulty. Failing that test being conclusive send both units, the postage will not be much different and the stereo won't work without either one of them anyway.
