Okay I'm soon to be receiving my deck. My deck is GPS ready, you just need to attach a GPS unit to it for it to work. My question is where do I get one of these devices? I have not been able to see anywhere where these standalone units are sold. I have checked the forums and also searched through ebay and can't find anything (just GPS ready things).
I know that some units just allow a CD to be put into it and the unit somehow runs off that (obviously with an additional aerial). What about the standalone units?
To my knowledge, it all depends on the interface of the unit itself. So if the unit requires a gps unit which will only input into your unit, then you will have to buy that unit and whatever it specifies it to you.
If it takes a CF card gps or bluetooth gps, then just buy one form ebay (I have) and it works great. Without any information of the type of unit you have, it is impossible to answer your question directly.
So the question now beckons, could I potentially use the ThinClient with Windows XP and a much smaller harddrive just to run the GPS through.
I've already bought my unit, so can't do the whole screen thing etc. etc. I'm really just after something that I can use for GPS. If that just means I can use a USB key and run that software by itself, that would probably solve my issue.

Yup i saw your unit Will I have been asking a few of these manufacturers to supply info on thier GPS interfaces as such. None of them use an "off the shelf" mapping standard we use here.
BTW the thin client began life with a 256MB flashdisk running Win XPe.

How would I get that to work (if possible). The plug for the GPS unit is purely an RCA cable as you saw. I can't plug a flashdisk into this can I?
Sorry have no idea what I'm talking about at this point, so not sure how I would get this to work with the GPS thingy on my new unit when it eventually arrives (next week it would seem).
