Is it possible to get Burnt CD's Playing in my Soarer's standard stacker? I'm using TDK Audio CD-R's but they only play for about 30 seconds and then start skipping. Just wondering if anyone has had any success with a specific brand or anything. Can't afford to replace system just yet.

I use Verbatims, blue ones. According to Mark P, black are the best if you can get them. Some jump on rough roads, but only needs Mark P to adjust it a bit more. Send your stacker to Mark for a service. Well worth it.

Mark Paddick can fix it. There's also something about what type of CD's to use.

Burning CD's is not environmentally friendly. |

Ashley, there is nothing wrong with the standard system if set up properly. As I stated, get Mark Paddick to service your stacker. Best money I spent.

Hmm for that kind of money I can put it into getting an Double Dimm slot MP3 player with iPod input and new speakers etc... I was just hoping it was easy/cheap.

Ashley, A cheaper and better solution is to wire your iPod into your TV inputs (assuming you don't want to watch TV). I wired in a lead that goes from the tuner under the back seat, under the carpet, and up into the bin between the seats. 10,000 + songs, no skipping or jumping, no loading and unloading CD's. Great sound. Regards, Murray

1. I doubt you can do that for less than $50. 2. There is no way MP3 quality can compare with CD. 3. You will have no tone controls. |

Thats entirely dependent on the bit rate and thus how lossy the compression is - no reason why a MP3 generated from a master couldn't exceed CD quality - of course most of them are only 100-200kbs which is pretty crap. |

Peter, 1. Cost me approx $5 for the cable, a dob of solder, couple of inches of masking tape, and an hour or two of time. 2. I agree that an MP3 can't re-produce the quality of a CD, but remember you are listening to music in a car, (and most Soarers that I know have a modified exhaust system), not a pristine sound room. 3. iPod has EQ. (an equalizer with numerous settings) - which I tend not to use anyway. regards, Murray

PS: I also like the ability to make playlists so that on a trip with no passenger I can set the iPod and not have to be playing around with screens. Works for me. ciao, Murray

Ya forgot the cost of the iPod. For $50 to $100 I can fix most stackers. I have ALL the options in my car and still tend to use the CD stacker rather than mp3/m4a options (M4a is definitely much better and compares well with CD except for lack of dynamic range common to all compressed formats). The main problem is that the TV input on EMV systems tends to be a bit noisier than the CD which is digital input rather than analogue. Feeding the output from an mp3 player in digital format into the CD input would be much better but will require some work.

The other problem I've got is I think I'm supposed to have a 12 stack CD player but my CD cartridge only fits 6 full sized CD's and the lower 6 look like they can only fit those small 6cm mini CD's in it. Is this normal? Can I get a full 12 stacker and does anyone have a spare one they are willing to part with for some $$$

There is apparently a 6 CD cartridge option for these stackers, I've never seen one. The normal 12 CD cartridge will fit. They are around $110 new from Toyota. Sometimes you can get one 2nd hand (rare). To get the CD stacker to play burnt CDs; 1. I can do a re-alignment for $50 to $100 depending on faults etc 2. Use black or blue CDRs 3. Fit a new laser/mechanism for $480

Weird that I ended up with one isn't it? *LOL* I was just hoping that there would be someone out there that's replaced the original stacker and would be willing to part with it... :-D

Hey Murray! Is there any chance that you could explain to me the procedure you went through to get the cables running to conect to your iPod? I want to connect a PDA for playing music through the soarer sound system. The main question I have, is whether the cables to the TV have to be completely cut and re-wired to the front, or can the additional cables be attached the current ones? If so, how does that effect the TV audio? Any help would be much appreciated.

Mark, what would be the major issues with wiring up the audio cables from the stacker input as you mentioned above? I would like to have the digital input, but how much of a job are we talking about?

Louis, I just bared part of the wire from the TV Tuner, soldered the lead for the iPod onto it, and wrapped the join with some electrical tape. Not sure how this effects TV sound as my TV has not been converted. My guess, it would still work OK. It was a pretty simple job. regards, Murray
