Alfred, I know there are many topics where most of this has been covered before.
For myself though, my rear speakers had died and I just bought a set of speakers (they're BOSS) from Strathfield and hooked them up. The existing wiring from the Soarer has the same connectors to hook up to most speakers these days anyway, so they just slide on to the + and - connections of the speaker.
Keep original wiring
If you want to use the same type (i.e. size) of speaker then existing wiring is fine. However if you're gonna be going something bigger, which may see you needing to add a mounting plate over the existing holes then you may need longer wire.

Rear speaker are not worth changing as they don't do much in the standard setup (reduced frequency range...the are just 'fill'). The best improvement will be to fit a proper crossover in the front between the standard bass speaker and tweeter (factory only uses a single capacitor). Replacing the tweeters with something like the jaycar supertweeters works well. Finding a 4.5" or 5" to replace the factory one is not easy, many aftermarket speakers are not as good as the factory ones so be careful. Try crossovers first and maybe tweeters and then go looking for a good set of 5" if you feel it still needs them.

Yeah true, but the ones I changed over really do deliver that missing "bass" I was after. When I eventually get a sub for the rear shelf then they will be fill, but for now they do their job.

All the speakers are 4 ohm except for the sub. Using 8 ohm speakers will result in a slight reduction in power output but better distortion from the amps. I use 8 ohm speakers for the front. Good quality 5" are hard to come by in car speakers bur 8ohm HIFI speakers are relatively easy as this is the 'standard' mid/bass size.
For crossovers the Jaycar CX-2612 are perfect ($16.95 ea). The supertweeters are CS-2210; $5 a pair. These are far too 'bright' for normal HIFI use but in a car work really well: and the price is right!

Mark, the Jaycar numbers you quoted, I cant find in my Jaycar catalogue. Tweeter CS2210 are listed at $45, CS2218 at $5. Cant find crossover CX2612, only CX2640. Are they OK? Not being into stereos, how do you fit the crossovers? Thanks.
The CX2640 is a piece of garbage, not much better than the single capacitor.
Wiring them in is pretty simple, there is an input pin and a common for the wires going in and 3 pins on the output side. The tweeter goes between the 'T' pin and common, the bass speaker between 'W' pin and common.
