Hi Guys,

I wonder if there's any information on the CD Changer protocol for the non-EMV head units?

I've examined the chipset on the (Matushita) cd changer main pcb & its made by NEC. I was hoping to find an NEC IEBus controller (
http://www.softservice.com.pl/corolla/avc/avclan.php) but I guess this unit is just too old. It looks like the protocol is being handled by a generic NEC CPU (http://www.necel.com/cgi-bin/nesdis/o003_e.cgi?article=UPD78C12A%28A%29).

I've been able to find cdc pinout information for the USA Pioneer based headunits but not for Jap Matsushita units. The sockets are the same so I'm guessing the pinouts are the same too.

I guess next step is to attach a signal analyzer & see what we get. I've never actually done this before, so I'm not sure how well it will go :-)

I hope its using some standard hardware protocol (like i2c) even if the cdc protocol is proprietary.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

The Jap and US head units are interchangeable so protocols will be the same. Pinout info on the Jap system is available in the wiring diagrams (Soarer Bible) but it is the same as the US one.
I suspect modified IP bus but that is only a guess. It is more likely a proprietry system but you never know.
Since both Pioneer and Matsushita are involved it is most likely a system not generally used by either company but a Toyota specific one. Faults in this area never occur so it's not something I've had the time to chase up.

Thx. Do you know if the Soarer head unit is compatible with cd changers from any other lexus or toyota models?

Lexus ES300 are the same connections etc and will work. Don't know about others. The Soarer CD is better than the ES300's Pioneer rubbish and I've fitted a couple to them. LS400/Celsior are not compatible as far as I know even though the plugs are the same. I haven't actually tried this myself and it's possible that those who did used an EMV stacker which definitely won't work with ANY bus system on the market (as it doesn't use a bus as such).

This leads me to think that the bus system Toyota use is either one that is common to both pioneer and Panasonic OR a Toyota special....not much help really.
