Mel, yes the radio/cassette must stay there in order for the EMV to function mate. There are a few people who have fit CD/MP3 players underneath the radio/cassette unit, although some modifications are needed to get it to fit properly. I believe this is because the piece that is underneath the radio/cassette unit is not exactly 1 DIN in size. Don't quote me on this though. Just going off what I've read from these forums.

There are two options with an EMV car. Keep the screen and replace ALLthe stereo system up until the power amps and speakers. Then you can fit any aftermarket sound system. You still need the tape deck connected to be able to use the TV button to get video on the screen. There is no way around this if you want the other (trip meter, aircon etc ) EMV functions to work. A dedicated interface board is a possibility.... In all other cases the tape deck must be installed. It does all the input switching and volume processing (all digital processing) for the system. The only available input is the TV input. Any analogue audio/NTSC composite video signals can be connected here, using an A/V switch for multiple sources (including factory TV). There are other possibilities but all require extensive, expensive, modification.
