Replaced my head unit on Monday with a nice Sony mp3 player .. People from Jb-hifi gave me one of those black plastic pockets you put under it to fill the gap , but it didn't fill it... It left a huge gap above and under ( mostly , you can see the big plugs ) , so I am wondering what "fillings" you guys have been using.
Many thanks

It's a bastard to fit in a way
But does look a treat mines not even screwed in it just sits there BUT i got some timber to make a uniform thickness so the cage holds it there really good and yeah

Marius, indeed you do. Mine's also just sitting there. I see no point going through all the trouble of modifying it to make it stay 'cause I'm just planning to fill the space in the future. Here's a picture of what mine looks like. Even though it's not screwed in, it does not move at all when I'm driving.
I know it doesn't look like a professional job, but it serves its purpose perfectly fine.

I have a screen like yours Vinh, that I am yet to install. I was going to get some gauges and install them in that position.
I was looking at electric ones, so I dont have to run a boost line, and an oil presure line. I think 2 gauges in that position would look great, and it would prob fill up that extra 1.5 DIN gap.
Stays black when not started . I was planning to put it there in the plastic pocket ( just got it from Mazda , thanks again for the part no . ) , but on a second thought , I need to see it without taking my eyes of the road , when you make boost you are usually gunning it...So I think I will put to the right of the instrument cluster on the dash up top.

Shaun, that's what I'm planning to do. I'm just shopping around for the gauges at the moment. Mainly want a boost gauge that shows boost in bars, and is backlit white or blue. Once I get my gauges, I'll just pull out the gap filler

I just got my new centre console last week. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have got off my arse and made up a carbon fibre panel to fill in that gap. That will then house my 2" boost, volt and oil pressure gauges. Should look sweeeeeeeeet. Will post up pics when it is all finished.
