Hey kiddies. In my parcel shelf I have already installed 6" Eclipse speakers - doing the job fine. However, in the front doors I have only 4" splits. Sounds alright..ish. I have from my old car some kick ass 6x9 5 way pioneers rated at 80w RMS. Sound very good through my kicker 100.2 amp (tested to pump out just short of 70wRMS per channel - not bad)

So, has anyone out there mounted 6x9's and 4" splits into a front door before? I was considering mounting the 6x9's in the ver lower part of the door (the flat bit covered with carpet). Obviously there is not enough surface area to mount by just cutting a hole, so, I was going to make an MDF frame, cover in fibreglass, smooth it off and cover in leather to match the cream/baige trim.

If anyone has pics of something along the lines of this, can a link be given or an image posted to give me a few ideas?

I'll cover the speakers in a mesh fabric to match the existing trim. Hopefully it will just blend in...

The 6x9's will probably sound extremely harsh up the front. If you're wanting to do things with your existing speakers you would be much better off with the 6" eclipse in your doors and the 6x9s on the shelf. Otherwise just head out and get some decent splits for your doors.

They're not 6x9, but same concept. Was thinking about pulling them out and making some moulds?

Nice setup there Ken, one of the craziest soarer setups I have seen :-) Very tidy.

I have people sitting in the back - so not really an option :-)

Those door moulds look alright Ken. I may be interested if you made a set. Was going to make some myself if I ever got any time to myself.

I know the 6x9's have that quiet area around the midrange because of the size of the speaker. That's why I was hoping the 4" splits would cover that quieter arear of the audio range. Had the 6x9's in parcel shelf and 6" components in the front doors in my old falcon. Did not like the sound when sitting in the back. Great speakers, but need to be accompanied by appropriate speakers.

Like the front door idea, but still unsure if it is worth it. might run the cables and "rough-in" the 6x9's to soo if the sound quality is to my liking.

Another question - Has anyone split the boot skin from frame yet with their subs? I have one of those terrible boot lit vibrations and can not find what is doing it.

Get some carfil, or whatever, and silicon along all the frame. Had to do that in my rolla when I put a 600w sub in there.

alll sorted. Have put some fibreglass on the back of the rear trims to reinforce them. moved the suspension controlling from behind the passenget side rear trim and hopefully next weekedn I'll have the remaining 2 speakers in. Still in 50/50 though about whether I could just sell the 6x9's and get a decent set f splits for the same spot.

Boot rattle is almost gone now. With stereo right up, there is only the most slight rattle. barely notice it.

I would utilise a good set of 6" Splits up front and put them in factory location (or even 5" if you can get some good ones.. Hear the JBL GTO series are quite good!!) and then utilise a good set of Coaxials at the back that has a good full range tweeter (possibly another set of splits rear (but not overly a fan of splits in rear..)

Amplified you should get a very decent mid and high frequencies and leave your sub in the shelf (if you have one!!)

So I'd sell sell the 6x9's

Ohh.. Just noticed also that your 6x9's are the Pioneer 5-Ways (assuming TSA6990s).. I find that having two many tweeters of different size tends to 'cloud' the image, and as Daniel said would be very very harsh up front.. in fact I don't think they would sound particularly good anywhere in the car.. But everyone's ears are different and so are their tastes.. So what ever does it for ya dude..!!
