Has anyone tried using one of these with the factory Pioneer head unit? It allows you to add an auxiliary input through the CD Changer input in the back of the head unit. In theory you can add an MP3 player in place of the CD Changer. Found it on the Pioneer Website http://www.pioneer.com.au/products/car_entertainment/ Model Number: CD-RB10

First off, the factory head units are a mixture of Panasonic, Toshiba, NEC, Fujitsu and Nippon Denso depending on model. Pioneer was only used in US spec cars ('cos they only deserve cheap ) and some Lexus models. Secondly, no non-factory CD uses the same plug setup so a fair bit of modification would be required. Thirdly, nowhere in the known Universe (outside Toyota's design department which in fact could be considered a Universe unto itself) does there exist ANY information on the protocols used in the factory system i.e. it's all guesswork. It is however probable that it is similar to the Pioneer system. Fourth; there is info out there on the 'net regarding making such a box without having to pay Pioneer their premium.
This is where I would put the link to said info if i could find it

Yeah thats pretty much how it is.
You need a Pioneer head unit to use this connection. It has its own P-Bus system to transfer the audio/signals between the headunit and then Ipod adapter.
You'd be better off with the mod to use Aux in in your head unit and then have a headphone plug to RCA and connecting it that way. You wont be able to control the Ipod with the head unit, but you can still listen to it.

i made my own by getting half a stacker cable and soldering an RCA on to it. Worked fine!
cost me a lot less than the $80 pioneer wanted for that.
there is also a tutorial on the ALSC forum on how to solder an RCA into the headunit elimintaing the stacker plug all together. would cost about $1 to run your Ipod off your pioneer deck.
Search for Pioneer and Gold in the ALSC archive. I posted it about18 months ago!
