Ok.. e-mailed a bloke about his Soarer the other day.. It has the EMV but has a sony cd player in the glove box.. I e-mailed him questioning this, his reply was:
"the deal with the deck is, i have a sony deck hooked up in the glove box, thats whats conected to the sub n spekers, not the inside unit, but still used for air-con control, but the display doesnt work, the light doesnt work, i was told its because when they hooked up the deck, they some how disconnected the display, but the touch-screen function still workss if what they're sayin is true, if you unplug the deck, the display should reappear"

Doubt it. Sounds more like the unit is damaged and they just put the cd player in because its easier than working on the touch screen. Plus the addition of the sup/amp control.

He was told a pile of ... The display does not work because the backlight has failed I would say. Something that can be repaired/replaced without too much drama at all.
