Hey Guys
Had my car service, long story short, one hose was not connect properly and leaked out a red fluid, it leaked into the spark plug area and i think into some of the spark plug chambers, now the car has a misfire on low idle, on load you can't really notice it though, what should i do, i'm going to take it back to toyota, should i get all plugs replaced? or just cleaned out any remaining fluids?

I'd say it'll probably be OK with a good clean - BUT if they are removing the throttle body anyway, might be worth the extra cash to put some new plugs in at the same time and save having to pull it off again later.

Just got a new dizzy cap and rotor from the boys at Lyncoln Toyota this morning - $63 all up, they charged me trade hahaha! The old one looks OK but figured its been on for 121,000k's now so for the price it's worth replacing.

What happens if you don't replace the dizzy cap after over 100,000kms?? mines only just at around 105,000km, i'm assuming that spark won't be as strong??

Nothing much - distributor caps have two problems - they can crack with age due to heat and vibration, and the contact points inside can corrode and cause poor conduction - same deal with the rotor arm. In practice I've found you don't need to replace them until they start causing problems (missing and rough idling can sometimes be traced back to a cracked cap), but I just figured it was so cheap I might as well do it.

Changed the rotor and cap this morning... here is the old rotor...
As you can see it's pretty far gone, so I'm glad I replaced it. The old cap seemed OK and just looked like the contacts needed cleaning, but I replaced it anyway.

Don't know yet, I've only driven it to the shops and back so it didn't get a chance to warm up properly. Off to Hamilton today so I'll let you know when I get back. I did think it was idling smoother, but being a 6 it's always been very smooth anyway so its hard to tell.

Verdict is the car is a little more throttle responsive. Noticed it was harder to keep at an exact speed on the open road as very small throttle movements made larger variations in actual speed that before. It did seem to use a little less petrol than it usually does on the Hamilton round trip (approx 280km) - though coming home it was very slow.
Bloody Sunday drivers - one asshat in an MPV was driving 75km/h on the single lane (100km/h) sections, then every time we got to a two lane section he'd accelerate to 100+ forcing me to speed to overtake him. The first time I didn't realise what he was doing on a short passing lane and ran out of room at 130km/h and got a telling off from the wife. The second time I was ready for him, sure enough he did the same thing again but it was a longer passing lane so I got past safely without having to get into licence loss territory. Lucky too as there were two cops lying in wait further down the road.
Then we hit the Southern Motorway and the idiots who drive up the fast lane at 85 ignoring the huge queues forming behind them.

Its not something I really take much notice of any more except on longer trips - it's certainly cheaper to run around the city than my UZZ30 was. On the open road I'd say around 11 to 12 km per litre - round trip to Hamilton usually uses about 25 litres, but as I noted replacing the cap and rotor seems to have improved that a bit.

gee 11-12 per litre is heaps good, i'm finding i'm only getting about 7km per litre, but thats before i got the new plugs put in, hopefully it might improve the economy
