After taking my car for a drive on the weekend I now have the cat warning light staying on all the time when the engine is running. Is this bad? Should I drive it like this? Should I get it serviced straight away?

Yes, its bad, and yes get it checked straight away. It most likely means the cat is overheating, or if you are also getting a charge warning, the alternator is having some problems. Shouldnt be difficult to get diagnosed and fixed.

I know bruce steven toyota in launceston do a bit with imports, they will service them if you want, and i have had no probelms getting parts through them for my soarer. Be it $$ LOL.
Id recomend going to a exhaust shop though, wont take long to diagnose a blocked cat.

Well I got the dreaded call from the mechanic. Turns out that one of the catalytic converters has failed and all of the crap out of it has been blocking the other cat. Looks like the cats gonna get neutered and that'll fix her
