I know the subject of swapping out a 1jz from a jzz30 and fitting a 2JZ-GE N/A engine in its place has been raised before, and the general opinion was that it was a waste of time and money. My teenage son has however bought a 1992 very rough jzz30 and wants to take it on as a project and do the engine swap so he can drive it on "P" plates. He has very little cash and can't afford to sell the jzz30 and buy a jzz31, but he has managed so far to build up a new 2jz motor that originally came out of a Supra. I know there are going to be electrical issues we will have to overcome but are there any other mechanical problems that anyone is aware we may face.

The issue he would have is a JZZ30 is a "P Plate Prohibited Vehicle". And I doubt would be able to legally drive it even if it's got the swapped engine.

Cops would do a rego check and see its registered as a jzz30 2.5tt and pull him over for driving a prohibited vehicle, I dunno what would happen once they see its the 3.0 N/A though.

He ever considered selling the jzz30 and buying a 31 without an engine or a blown engine, and putting the one he rebuilt into it?

I say call the rta and ask about the legal side of things before he starts such a massive project.

Checked with the RTA and the engineer I'm using on my 260z project and its all good. I don't need to have the conversion engineered and there is no problem with my son driving it on "P"s.
