| Which Altezza is the best, 4 or 6 cyl, 2 or 3 ltr? I was once told what a BEAM's engine was but I've forgotten, so what is so special about it? Is the Altezza much different to the Lexus equivalent? |

| The Altezza which is different is the 4 cylinder. Australia gets only the 2.0 and 3.0 litre sixes under the Lexus name. Aside from weight and the usual luxury tweaks, only the engines are different between models (including the 4 cyl so far as I know). If you want anything resembling grunt, get a 3.0L rather than one of the others unless you plan to turbo the car. The main disadvantage of the 3.0 is more weight up front so it does not handle quite as sweetly as a 2.0 in stock form. However, if you start adding bits to a 2.0 then you are adding weight up front anyway. All of them are among the finest handling 4-doors you can buy. An american site suggests the 1UZFE as a suitable engine which keeps if from being too nose heavy.... I once read what a BEAMs engine was too, but I could not be bothered remembering it so I can not help you there. HTH |

| Blown 1UZ in an altezza/IS. Niiiiice. BTW, I think Altezza is the JDM model, which had the beams 4 cyl, which put out similar power to the 2JZ-GE in the IS 300. There is also the IS 200 with a 2 liter 6pot. Quite gutless like a 318/320 BMW. |

| Surely there would be a supercharger kit circling in the second hand market to excite things a little Oh and is the 3L on a 2JZ-GE? orr does toyota have another engine im not aware of? If its the 2JZ-GE it would explain the significant move to drop in its turbo variant.. Cheers, Cihan. |

| Altezza is the JDM name, The Aussie delivered (In NZ and Europe too) its the AS200 (IS200), this has the Beams 1GFE, a very SLOW and economical motor. (114kw)(6Cyl 2.0l) The Altezza RS200, is the one to get, pretty much only available from Japan (Very hard to find in OZ, but PLENTY in NZ) is teh Beams 3SGE, pushing 157kw in NA form. (4cyl 2.0l) The Inline 6 is indeed the 2JZGE, found in IS300 and Altezza Gita (Wagon) |

| There are charger kits about. Neal Bates told me they are more readily available for the 2.0 litre cars than for the 3.0 litre. He has an RS200 which he has used in the Targa Tasmania and for promotional purposes (it is plastered in signage). His has no charger on it but it has been tuned and the suspension tricked up for a flat ride with great handling, not to mention quite a bit of clatter because rubber cushioning has been removed from the strut towers. |

| Neal Nates' car was actually a JDM RS200, not an IS200. The SC kit avail for the IS200 is from tte, bumps power up to 150kw from 114kw. |

| My daughter has just picked up a !999 IS200 Legana, now I need to find out as much about the specs as I can. Is the Legana badge strictly limited to the body kit, which her car includes front and rear bars, side skirts, rear spoiler (WRX style), the front bar has driving lights instead of the normal turning lamps, a sweet under scoop, and no front badgework. Were there any other mods, like door sill plates, sports pedals, engine bay, etc associated with Legana. |

| Thanks Neil, I also performed the mandatory search and received the same sites among a very small response. So the kit looks to be limited to the 4 major pieces, and seems to have been limited to 1999 - 2001. I wonder how many kits they did sell, as I think this is my second I've seen. The previous owner also fitted oem rear parking sensors, and looks to have replaced the headlight covers.

| David, i must of been drunk! Sorry heheh. Paul, nice car, and unique colour, yes, the Legana is just the add on body kit. There are 2 different models in the IS200 range, Sports and sport luxury. Probably the main difference in both are sports luxury has the LSD, & Leather/suede interior |

| Well, the missus is expecting. Now I have to convince her she wants an Altezza to replace the AE101 Levin. (She wants a PT Cruser) I tried convincing her an Aristo would be a great car for kids, but she said it was too big and fast. |

Now that is just sad.... I don't find any redeeming features for PT cruisers apart from as delivery vehicles for small business as you can paint signs on the side. |

| Yeah tend to agree - they are basically MPV's in disguise, but I've never driven one, and they at least look a bit better than an MPV. Still, I'll try and move her towards the Altezza, after all it'll probably be safer for the baby too. |

Actually the sports/sports luxury options list isn't entirely true. It came down to how the options were selected for the particular model where if you didn't select some options other wouldn't be available. I learnt this the long way around and I believe redbook even got pinged for it as every year of the same model had the exact same options but upon checking some cars in each of those years they were missing alot of these already 'fitted' parts. The most common example you'll find are sports luxury auto's that are not LSD as they were an option with the auto, same with power/heated seats. As for the supercharger kit from TTE IMHO isn't worth the bang for buck.. after you purchase the kit and have it fitted your looking at around 8k (and that's being hooked up!) Mild mod work for the 1G-FE seems to be suitable, anything past 250kw and you'd find it cheaper to replace the motor. Best bet, look up an old AutoSpeed article on how a guy worked his 1g-fe and you'll see he spend loads for little power just to prove a point. Unfortunately I own a Aussie delivered IS200 (first ever local assembled car I've bought) and never again will I own another local car as they are friggin leftovers from other countries e.g. NO GPS! Gita Wagons are cool! be tricky getting one in. |

| Eddie, you may be wrong about the options. Lexus never had options on the IS series. They all came preset with normal, sports, and sports luxury packages. I may have to check that, I've got that crap somewhere at home.

Should have forked out a little more for the aussie delivered IS300... the Sports Luxury has the GPS Oh, and they're not assembled locally afaik too. |

The IS200 would be fully imported, not locally assembled. GPS or Sat/Nav was an option on the IS series, certainly for the 300 and probably the 200, so it is most likely the original owner's fault if you do not have it. |

| Nah, IS200 came with GPS too: http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/LEXUS/IS200/details.aspx?__sid=1131FE3C72ED&Cr=7&__Ns=p Car_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=10 03&seot=0&__Nne=20&Model=IS200&R=1878487&__N=4294965468+0+4294965417+4294932778+4294929613+834+285+2 57&Make=LEXUS&state_id=0&trecs=18 Of course you gotta keep in mind that only came in 2002 onwards. The earlier models obviously will not have it. |

| Found it!
List of features, at least on the IS300 Sports Luxury is much larger of course, but since there's no mention here, looks like perhaps SatNav was an optional extra on the IS200 Sports Luxury... Wish I could find an '02 feature list. From what I can see the wheels on mine are the same as on the IS200. What year is yours David? |

| Mine is 2002, built October, the SL version. The information about wheels is confusing. In 2002 the IS200 came with 16" multi-spoke wheels with the 5-spoke 17" (shown in the first picture) an option for the car. The larger 5-spoke pattern wheels were standard on the IS300. The text, though, describes 11-spoke 17" for both cars. It may be that someone mixed up the pictures. The cars are visually identical apart from the rear badge and front fog light colour. |
