| Loads of nice looking Soarers out and about in West Auckland today. Nice looking white TT in Kelston, a dark blue (guessing) V8 in Lynfield, and a FSG in Avondale. I think 3 in one day (not including my own) is about a record for me! Must be the nice weather. Just went down to Lanholm and took this shot...
I've decided I need to get all the nicks and creases sorted out, so its off to the panel shop in a couple of weeks. Paint still comes up nice though. |

| Nope Don, Not really Some questions but nothing more... To be honest I could be doing the gold soarer thing all over again, Ive been searching around for cars to replace it but none are any good overall compared the the soarer. So far Ive been through these cars over the last few days as options and Ideas.. Subaru Legacy - No as have many strange engine problems, IE one guy I talked to about them said his 90km suffered piston slap and it was stock - Need a new motor! So NO THANKS to those Other car I pondered about was a S15 Nissan Silvia but they are just out of my price range, although quite nice still - I can see why they hold so well. So really maybe I should just stick with the soarer.... Its so good for what it is. Especially keeping in mind any other car like the ones above have less features, Comfort and quality of the stereo etc but one thing I like about them is the simple interior construction with the doors etc, not all fragile like the soarers ones... I think Ill still ponder about it. Well see how it goes. |

| My advice, Mike, is to make a decision on what is the most practical car for you, right now, at this time in your life. Most guys in their early 20's can ill-afford to support having a luxury V8 vehicle, and if they can it is usually at the expense of more important things that come later on, such as house deposits, medical bills, travel. I bought my Soarer when i was 26 and only have it up to its current standard because I decided before I bought it that I would own it for at least 5 years, if not for as long as petrol was readily available, and would make it my sole extravagance. I have forfeited opportunities at buying property, not being able to make more trips overseas to see friends and family etc., forced to buy white bread instead of brown... There will always be Soarers around in case you want one at a later date when hopefully being able to afford one is no longer the issue. You've owned a couple now - use your experiences to guide your final decision. |

Thanks Don, yeah, I was surprised how much better they looked than the stock ones actually. I think its because they are a much lighter coloured alloy than the stock wheels. New tyres grip like crazy too! |

Two late model R-S legacies at work, one a 2002 and the other I think is a 2003 as it looks almost identical. Both are very nice looking cars, but I know that one of them was of the road for quite a while recently. No idea what was wrong with it though. Nothing wrong with S15's, except as you say they are still quite pricey. |

Mike's got his head screwed on right I think. Totally agree with your advice though, I wasted so much money and tim on cars when I was in my early 20's. Still I learned a lot too (mostly about how to get oil and grease off clothing and hands) |

| Exactly Mark, Thats part of my general reason for thinking about keeping or selling... As well as the car its self they do require care all the time and I give it that constantly but its so annoying alot of the time! IE, Nothing worse than trying to push open those bloody doors on a hill facing upwards or even a down hill road, simple things like this require so much care! Dont want those hinges/Bearings to fail! Yeah Matt, Bit of a shame about the S15s as they are very nice, Almost a Simple 'Soarer' Same sort of shape etc and the non-turbo ones which I would look at are not that much slower in manual compared to the stock v8s. Not quite the same of course! But first year of production was 1999 so prices are going to be high still.... |

| Haha, Thats true but its just the fact of how you generally have to be careful where you push and pull on the door as they are not that strong, especially these days... I went looking at some newer cars 1997-2000 at the Turners Auctions - its really amazing at how sturdy the interiors are in materials and construction, not as pleasant as the soarer but just so much more practical on a day to day basis. |

| Well, give 'em another 10 years and see how they are doing. It's true about age though, prime reason for me buying my 3 litre was because I couldn't find a '96 or later V8 anywhere, and anything older than that was just too much of a worry. Regardless of milage and care, plastic ages, rubber, foam etc all perishes eventually, and electronics start to develop dry joints and leaking caps. Even my very basic old Triumphs were a nightmare for broken plastic and wiring problems at 25+ years of age (mind you, a lot of them were like that from new too) My best advice would be when buying a car for a daily driver, never more than 10 years old, and never more than $10,000 - try and pay cash if you can. |

| Spotted FSG Soarer in Glen Eden on Sunday afternoon - gave me a wave out the window so I waved back. Didn't really get a good look at it, but it looked to be well loved. |

| Spotted Fred Fuchs and his Soarer in Lower Hutt today, and then spotted another stunning FSG Soarer on the highway from Lower Hutt to Wellington today - late model rear-lights and badged as a Lexus SC400. Followed it along for a bit before giving it a bit of a throttle and watched it become a speck in the rear view mirror. |

| This lucky bullshitter is sitting in a Soarer right? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10527337 Can't be 100% sure as the door trims missing, but looks like a Soarer interior to me. |
