Judging by the amount for sale on Trade Me, there's probably about 100 or so in the country, including about 3 genuine manuals. There was a dude down here in New Plymouth selling an allegedly mint 94 TT-L manual for $14.5k, but that was a while ago. Also I see a yard in Auckland is selling a 98 VVT-i manual in White, with bling wheels for $22k......a bit rich I thought

Yea I know...whenever there's a manual one that pops up people want an arm and a leg for them. Would be a hell of allot easier and cheaper to buy good quality auto for under 10K and just convert it... W00hoo at least mine should be fully manualised by the end of the year!!!

Cheaper -probably, easier - I'll ask you again when yours is finished! Don't be shy if theres any help, advice etc you're after, can show you how to do crossmember etc so it'll be easy to cert. Did you buy any parts from your 'mate' NOVA7? Don - I've been getting all kinds of grief about my new tow vehicle!! haha, It tows really nicely though, stoked! |

Thad no I don't deal with NOVA7..as you must have come to realize by now he's a bit of a prick!! I still have a couple of parts to go before I'm ready for the conversion. Hopefully it should be done by the end of the year wich is what I'm aiming for. Crossmember for gearbox I'll have to get made aswell. I was going to ask you about that since you've already done it to give me like measurements etc so I can get one made up.

Just curious how you young guys manage to get insurance for your Soarers - when I was 24 I wanted to get a 2 door coupe, and nobody would insure me for it despite my perfect record, except for State - who a) suck, and b) wanted $1800 per year to insure me for a $13,000 2.2 litre car - just 'cause it had 2 doors - so I had to wait until I turned 25 and like magic I was suddenly able to get insurance on anything.

State said they'd insure me for like 3200$ a year so I told them where they could stick that. I rang National Auto after that and they took me on first go. 1100$/year for full cover on the Soarer and it should go down next month with my no claims so I'm happy about that.

Yeah, and after paying them $3,200 a year when your car is stolen or damaged, they try and weasle out of paying... Funny enough when I was your age I was driving a Triumph Dolomite Sprint heavily modded with about 220 BHP at the flywheel - 0-100 in a shade over 6 seconds, max speed around 240KM/H - but because it was a 20 year old 4 door 2 litre naturally asperated saloon, insurance was dirt cheap. They are so clueless! Ouch! $648 for me, with $250 excess, glass cover, rental cover etc. I guess getting old has its benefits.

$805 for full cover with $750 excess, drops to $250 when I hit 25. They got all worried after hearing the words, lowered, tinted and modified exhaust. I think he would've passed out if I'd mentioned the T word.

Well except for the excess, thats not too bad. I'm surprised they didn't ask you about turbos! I think they mostly worry about cosmetic mods because of the increased risk of theft and vandelism.

National auto is not too bad except for their excess!! They've got 2 different excesses for different things and I think my excess is around 1200$ at the moment. They don't mind at all about turbos etc but they're the only place that I could find that would give me full cover with modifications on the car etc. so I had no real other choice of anywhere else to go.

haha yea Matthew a bit of a long way off for me. :P Not to worry though...my no claims will start kicking in this December so it should go down. I also know a broker that might be able to help me out with lowering the insurance etc so hopefully I'll get hooked up.

At one time I was seriously starting to look into a supercharger for my old UZZ30, but it was looking so expensive for a bolt on kit, and really couldnt justify it, I thought without a total engine tear down. I then kinda grew out of my boy racer phase (thus the decision to get the JZZ31)

I'm insured with AMI. Comprehensive cover, agreed value $13k, $500 excess, glass cover, $50k life cover if either me or karen are killed in ANY vehicle. Named drivers ONLY (Me & Karen). $298.75 per annum. PS: We also have our home & contents cover with AMI, so that does make a difference to the premium.

I'm with AMI too - sounds like the same deal (my car for $15,000), and have my home & contents with them, as well as my partners Corolla Levin - the best they could do for me is $54 per month - I also got a quote from AA, who were much the same but had a higher excess at $300. It would have been quite a bit cheeper with the $500 excess, but still more than 298.78! But I guess at 30 I'm still in a higher risk age group.

| Yeah, maybe, but here's the thing. When it came up for renewal, the premium had jumped from $337.98 (With $100 excess) to $402.36 (With $100 excess), I thought WTF, and rang them up. They said, well it's a turbo, I said, Eer HULLO, where does it say turbo on our policy. They then said that the ONLY listing THEY had for Soarers was a TT coupe. I then patiently explained that Soarers were available as a NON turbo 6cyl., a Twin Turbo 6cyl.,OR a non turbo V8. They went...Oh! we didn't know that . Oh good oh, I said, so wot you fellas gonna do bout the premium then HMMMMM!, now't they said. BOLLOCKS! I replied. OK then doodles, hows about I increase my excess, will THAT make a difference. Yes oh Yes, came the reply. OK price me for a $1k excess (You muppets!). Answer: $378.22 per anum. Oh well it'll have to do (I suppose) Grrrrrr!. 20 minutes goes by, phone rings (As they do). It's bloody AMI on the line.....Is that Mr.Bagnall...(NO, it's a friggin cardboard cut-out ), why yes, yes it is. Well it's Shirley here from AMI (No sh*t Sherlock, I figured THAT out from caller ID), I have good news. Oh yes, do tell. I had a word with my supervisor, and he seems to think that we can ensure your car as a LEXUS COUPE, for considerably LESS moolah. I said, but it's a SOARER NOT a Lexus SC400. She said, yes we know that, but we can classify your Soarer in the same class as Lexi, which are muchly cheaper to insure coz hoons n' stuff don't drive Lexus's. I'm like, yeah OK whatever, what's the bottom line. That's when Shirley from AMI said the NICE-PRICE of $298.75, with all the other blah blah included, AND a $500 dollar excess. So it MAY just be an idea to tell your insurance muppets that the car is CLASSED as a Lexus coupe, NOT a "Common" Toyota hoon-coupe, it may just save ewe's fulla's a few bucks.
