hey everyone,im after your opinions as to what i should do next.my 91 tt is standard besides 600x300x76 front mount ,k&n pod,and 3inch cat back.im stoked with how she runs now but i want more.Being an apprentice solid plasterer means i dont have bucketloads of cash.a lot of guys are running safc with good results.i know a safc and a good tune should put me at 170kw at wheels ish but should i wait till i can get adjustable cams then tune or should i put cams nearer the bottom of the wishlist and get the safc now+boost controller and tune straght away to get most out of current mods.any tips or advice is greatly appreciated cheers

depends on what you want to do with the car. if you want to drag race, get a stage 1 shift kit from MV automatics. that will gain you heaps down the strip. you already have intake , exhaust and FMIC,so next power gains available are buying adjustable cam gear wheel and retard the exhaust cam by 4-6 degrees for more top end power.or google uniqueautosports in australia and buy the cheapest twin dump pipes and fit them.

hey mike do you live in papakura ?saw a v8 today with mods you describe on your profile.

yeah never dragged the soarer but would definitely like to, what does the shift kit do?never had an auto till the soarer so dont have a clue but im gonna give the transmission a flush soon.
the cheapest dumps were $500 oz from that outfit which i guess aint too bad.
on trademe at the moment there are hks cam wheels for $495 and thats a set.blake u mentioned retarding exhaust cam 4-6 degrees so do i have to buy a set or will the exhaust cam be enough?

exhaust will be enough. shift kit eliminates that half second slurring of the gear changes, which is bad for times, and bad for the trans when you have bigger power.it just snaps into the next gear, chirping wheels. i wento to winterdrags at meremere yesterday, traction not flash. best of 13.0 on street rubber. 60 foot times varied from 1.98 to 3.0 sec!(compared to a best of 1.71 on the same track in mid feb)

both around the 350 -400 dollars AUS from memory. you need to send him an exchange unit for the shift kit(ie he sends you a shift kitted valve body, you send him your standard one.)

Cory, a mate of mine has a spare HKS 1JZ cam gear - brand new in the box and it's the new Duralumin style just like those on TM. If you're interested I'll talk to him but last time I heard he was after $200 for it - can probably include courier in that price too.

Shift kits are easily the best mod to get gains out of your auto, if your planning on running good times down the 1/4 and not fussed about installing a manual, then go for one of them Cory!

Blake has some very good advise that's for sure, hell hes got the fastest factory turbos soarer in NZ! I think Ive got a video from one of the drags earlier in the year of Blake running down the strip. Post it up soon!

thanks mike,i hadn't seen that. on that run the car was running hard, pulling a 1.71 sec 60 footer, but suffered a big miss between 6 and 7000rpm in second gear, which cost me heaps of time, meaning a 12.5 sec timeslip. i felt it should have done about a 12.3 or 12.2. a real pity. thanks for the vid. oh, by the way, the 400rwkw red supra pulled a 1.8 sec 60 footer in that video.

Cory, Go see Mr Muffler in Onehunga.

He does great jobs. Ive had him do my Soarers and Celsiors work.

I recommend getting some nice dual mufflers too, oval ones, not cannons, especially a single one. Its a bad look IMO - Get so tired of seeing and listening to cars in Auckland with junk on the back! Especially a Soarer, I is a good way to devalue the car though! :-)

i called him yesterday for a quote, very reasonable considering im providing the front pipe, resonator and twin shiny mufflers.
