Might well be the power steering pump leaking onto the alternator.

Did mine recently, cost about $50 for brushes and bearings. Took about two hours to clean up, tear down and press bearings etc.

Make sure you fix the power steer pump if it's leaking as it will kill the new one quickly.

If you can't repair it yourself at least take it off and take it in to someone to get them to run it on the test bench and check regulator as well.

Matt.

Hmmm I've got to get a new Alternator actually, better do it soon, I have an 80 amp 3SGE one in at the moment, not too great!

Have to get a PS pump kit too! Sort both out over summer.

Then I can get those Steering rack bushes done!

Hi Johnny,
If you have a TT, you shouldn't have a problem with power steering oil on the alternator as the alternator doesn't sit under the power steering pump on a TT. That's a V8 problem only.
Also, it would be unusual to have EMV in a TT, perhaps someone else could confirm this?
You should get an Auto Electrician to check the alternator output, should be approx 14.2 volts from memory?
Cheers,
Macca
