Where is a good place to get my trans rebuilt? its slipping quite bad. I'm running 250rwkw, I asked the gearbox factory, they said allow $3000 for a spec'd out trans with a performance kit. I'm not really familiar with what i should get done to it other than better clutches and a shift kit, anything else i should consider?

this is a rip. lincoln autos did a strengthened soarer box for my 2jz project car for $1000(palmy north) a shift kit will cost you about 300-400 bucks on top of that.(from australia) my 1j soarer has 1000 bucks of parts from MV automatics in it(not including stall convertor) Labour cost to install it and recon box was 600 bucks.
Right, where do I start...speaking from experience by the way.
I got so fed up with the advice given to me with regards the A340e, I decided to bite the bullet and order a full kit which inc a 2800rpm stall, rebuilt core with upgraded packs etc adn a modified valve body from MV automatics.
Needless to say, it did cost me a packet inc freight and import tax etc (but theres ways around that).
This was done after a full rebuild was carried out locally. The out fit that carried out the work assured me that everything would be good and withstand the power im producing.
Alas, it was not be and after numerous visits back, they gave me a full refund back.
I also went to gearbox factory and a few other places, got the same response as Jesse but they werent going to guarantee the work (which was fair enough) and therefore not too keen unless I wanted to go manual etc tremec, C4 and the likes..
So far, ive forked out over $5000 for everything to be running smoothly, which inc labour and diagnosis, and then ecu trouble. Touch wood this never happens again.
moral of the story, know what you want and who you deal with, good to have contacts along the way and if you dont be prepared to dig deep into your pocket.
Having said that, i have a smile on me face when the pedal is put to the metal
Blake, im getting closer everytime I put it on the strip, not long I reckon. Need LSD though but Oll let you kbnow how it goes this weekend.
In fact, Im racing this Saturday at Meremere...Warren Day's work has organised it. Looking forwrd to it as theres a workshop with a few pros, such as Carl Jensen of Venom Supra... Mike, you signed up to it??

I can't sadly, as I sold my ECU to Phil and sent it off so my car is a no go till I get his old one back, since then I've taken my PS pump out for a rebuild
No worries though! Ill be out in it probably in the new year once it's more exciting and worth taking down again.
I might come along to watch and video your Soarers going down the strip though. If the weathers nice enough.

getting back to jesse, if you plan to continue with 250rwkw(ie not more) then a simple rebuild (say 600 dollars to cover labour and rebuild kit) plus a shift kit ($300-400 dollars) and a trans cooler will see your trans handle 250rwkw reliably.so that is a cheaper option.a cheaper option again, would be to put a shift kit in a second hand good condition box, and just keep driving it like you have been. it could last for ages.I could organise this for you.i have a spare box.

i do not know if a second hand standard one would be good cause the box in there now supposed to have kevlar clutches in it, it also has a big trans cooler at the front behind the radiator. I just want to do it right first time so i don't have this problem again.

i would pull the gearbox,(put a standard one in if you need to keep driving the car) and get it dismantled to see where the problem is. the gearbox might be damaged in one area only, so could be fixed more cheaply than a full rebuild. driving a damaged trans tends to start wrecking lots of bits.
Id also relocate the trans cooler where there's more ambient air flowing, ie where teh sidemount intercooler used to. By the way, anyone going to meremere this sat arvo??

I think the trans cooler is to big to be relocated there but will have to measure it up and see. Its been my first day off since the trans screwed up so i took it in to the gear box factory so they could take it for a drive to see what they thought. They remembered my car because the guy before me took it there to get the trans done. They said it was about 2-3 years ago and they had put kevlar frictions in it and they had to order them from aussie cause no one here had them. It had some other stuff done to it too but cant remember. So i'm just gonna get them to replace the worn ones with the same kevlar ones and put a shift kit in.
on another note, my cars tuned with a SAFC II but i'm gonna get an e-manage ultimate. Once the ultimate is in there it wont need the safc? Just asking because i have seen that some people have an after market computer and a safc as well.
Did you buy your soarer from Steve (big guy)? Just curious...
I have an Ems stinger and safc, I can take out the safc if I want but I use it as an extra gauge or monitor type. Most aftermarket computers these days look after prettty much all the tuning aspects of your car.

why?cos i saw a pale green one on trade me ages ago with a single turbo garrett, with a strengthened trans, and was wondering if it was the same car. very nice one. Why? so if i see it at the drags some time, i can say hi. why? because this is a forum, where people share information. Why? because not many soarers make 250rwkw,and i'm interested in how people achieve their power gains. No need to be too cautious of me,as you can see by my offers of help, I'm not likely to drive 600km to steal stuff from you all the best.

didn't think your gonna steal it, just thought you were gonna say you knew my car or seen me around or something. yeah its that car. its got a garrett gt2876r i think its called, 3 inch exhaust, supra injectors, stainless manifold, fmic, oil catch can, fpr, fuel pump, a few other small things. the turbo spools at around 2700 and still pulls hard out all the way to 7000. yes the trans was rebuilt but i guess steve drove real hard lol. Its lasted 2 or 3 years, i don't thrash it so it should last longer the way i drive. car runs fine, i run it on 1bar boost with a bit of a rich tune most of the time. Its fun for road trips lol.
