Rebuild yours Joe, it's pretty easy.

I have done both mine, brushes and bearings and it's away again.

Total cost about $35.

Matt.

It may have killed the regulator or rectifier but that isn't massive dollars.

If it's overcharging then the regulator is busted.

Only takes a few minutes to pull the alternator apart and chuck a set of brushes into it and refit and test.

Just pulled apart, brushes are clean and quite long, both were contacting the rotor shaft. Think its the rectifier, but can't be sure. Who has these things in stock?(The rectifier/regulator)
And is the regulator part of the rectifier unit?

Any chance I could buy one of yours and organise you another one Matt? Just found out the rotor has a open somewhere, so it's useless r

Have you done a continuity check on the rotor?

That's an unusual fault....

Yep I could have done that for you Joe but I fly to the south island tomorrow morning at 8am....

Just did a continuity check, and it is definitely open circuit, bloody weird. Anyone know how to get the damn pulley nut off? It's like it's been welded on there, I've tried everything i can think of, the old two spanners isn't working...

Rattle gun or IMpact gun should help " crack " the nut .

Thanks Daniel and Matt, I popped her open finally and found a wire that looked like it had been broken off from a solder joint.
5mins with the soldering iron and all sorted

Shame I already bought a new alternator... for $510... anyone want it? lol...
