Our Soarer's (Obviously!, it wouldn't be a V-Dub, would it?) air-con had been getting a triffle Ho-Hum in the cooling department, soooo I thought to myself "Self, yall'd better get yo fat ass down to the chilly-dudes and get it puffed up".

I rang 2 of the 3 places what do automotive A/C in New Plymouth, and they said $160 - $180(ish).

"Roger me Rigid, with a Randy Rhinoceros", there ain't no way I's gonna be paying that sort moolah

Sooo time for lateral thinking me thunks.

Rang up the local appliance repair outfit, and asked the question re whether they'd do a vehicle A/C check & regass.
They said "Yeah, no worries Mate".

So to make a long story looooonger, this kind fellow performed all the leaky, leaky type tests, evacuated the system for a coupla hours, then regassed and rechecked for leeks (And other assorted vegetables ).

The gas used is "Ozone Friendly" (Big woop!,like I give a rats), and is called "N49", is TOTALLY compatable with the old R12 crap, and dosen't require half ya friggin seals n' stuff to be replaced, like with R132.

The ONLY difference between R12 & N49, is that N49 will not run quite as chilly-poo as the old R12, but the difference is 1 degree, so...like, who cares?.

And the cost of this "Ice-age" remake?, A vastly more palatable $80 incl. Grab Snatch & Take!.

So it dosen't matter a dead dogs willie if you get the car serviced at an "Automotive Specialist" or a "Fridgy", it's all just a variation on a theme.

Save ya self some bucks (And spend it on BOURBON

)

Mason Appliances Service centre
162 Gill Street,
New Plymouth

The nice man said that ANY refrigeration engineer/outfit/repair place has the same equipment that automotive places use, but in his opinion, because they're "Specialists", they charge like enraged Cape Buffalo

Selling the W58 and only saying "...what I'm planning on doing will be far more interesting and fun when it's done. You will still be enjoying a heart-attack and a beer afterwards."

C'mon you know since I only have a V8 that I have to live my performance dreams out through your Z30

hehe...well after talking to John Shannon in the weekend when I picked up some bits from him he told me about a hook-up of his which I will be persuing instead of the Manual Conversion.

Hopefully she'll partly be ready by February for the trackday. Then we'll see what she's capable of...
