Has anyone got or know of a amp dsp unit for sale. Volume starting to get bit weak on mine. Assume the amp and dsp unit go together. Also, assume you can get amp recapped. Thanks.

Hey Rod,

Indeed, I bought Dave Harts old UZZ32, the stereo was pretty stuffed. So I decided to give recapping it a go given the trouble they cause.

Probably cost me around $200-250 worth of quality Panasonic and Nichicon caps. DSP, Reciever, Rear amp, CD stacker and Sub amp all got replaced by my self. There must be at least 200 Audio related caps to replace so its no easy task for the novice.

Results are startling, like brand new again loud, clean and powerful.

Time consuming but worth it, with quality caps it should last over 20 years or more, They are a well designed circuit and my experience with this Jap stuff is long life ++ and good quality sound.

It is Rod. I found the main issue was with the reciever actually, the bigger unit next to the smaller DSP.

After I did the caps the volume came back etc.

Doing the main amp just smoothed the sound out further etc.

Like 80s 90s Hi Fi systems. Simple circutry, high power & quality. Mike aren't you glad that you didn't replace the system with aftermarket?
I'll do the same as you did. Pull the gear out of 310, recap it & refit into 790.

Agreeed, I wouldnt have bothered changing to an aftermarket and loosing the original parts / features like many UZZ31/32 owners have done with their EMV systems.

Besides I'd need to spend a couple of grand on an above average system to satisfy my OCD nature.

Still, I'm more interested in the cars mechanical performance anyhow so I'd never go that far!

Hi Mike where did you get your capacitors from when you replaced the radio and dap unit. Might have a try at doing the dap unit myself having looked at tutorials on replacing caps. I see that the brands you used seems to be best with lots of warnings of imitation brands about.

RS Online is the way to go Rod.

Yeah If you feel confident doing it give it a go. I think there's about 50 caps in the DSP unit. Some are bi polar so take note of that.

More inside the shielded unit within but I didn't get around to replacing them.

rod, if you have not worked on multi layered PCB's I would get someone with experience to do the job.

Over heating the PCB will stuff it beyond repair. Removing the old component is the tricky bit.

^ Word. Keeping temps down is the key. Also being mindful of static discharge too.

I'm always extra careful when working near ICs, I stop work if they get over 50 deg c in a 20 deg room when de-soldering legs in close proximity.

The uses of IR heat guns are endless :-)

If you want I could look at doing this work for you Rod?

Sure thing Mike I would appreciate that. I am pretty sure it's the dsp unit as when it's switched in it cuts out the passenger side speakers. When off get sound back again but with weak volume. Wen the dsp switched on the drivers side speakers go very loud and passengers speakers go,quiet. All speakers go with radio going. Just seems to be when Dsp switched in when playing CDs. Can you give me a price Mike to do the dap unit with the good caps you use. Thanks.
