To those who know. My sub cover brake light does not work but the foil one does and also the lights in tail lights. Someone suggested that some time ago it was illegal to have two brake lights and because of compliance regulations that one had to be disconnected but now according to this person that does not matter any more. As I want to have the back of my car light up like a xmas tree I would prefer that the subcover one works as well. How would you check, does the subcover just pull off.?

| Looks like there's a screw/bung thingy (or 2) holding the cover on

Don, the Sub/brake light assy is different to the straight brake light, afaik it comes off the same as the sub cover.....but having never taken one off, that's just a guess.

Hmmm, yeah, I'm in the same boat........never taken mine off, and that's the only pic in the EPC for the brake light, so I assume it's the same (dismantling wise) for both types

Hi Guys, there is a plug for the sub brake light just to the right under the parcel tray sub opening. To get the cover off just push in the pins in centre (as circled above) and lift sub cover up and back to you.It may have no bulbs in there if the plug is conected.Does this make sense?

Thanks fellas. Sub light cover levers off from just in front of back seat.Tested bulbs with 9 volt battery and they work ok .Was going to simply join sub light wires to foil light wires but cant see where they emerge from under parcel shelf in boot in spite of taking tank surround in boot away. Looks like foil was after market as wires to it are taped down side of right boot hinge and then taped together into another two different coloured wires and they dont seem to match the sub wires in colour. Looks like sub light disconnected after foil fitted. May have to get auto electrician to have a look as dont want to stuff around with wiring too much. The plug to the sub light was connected but where they have been disconnected I wouldnt have a clue.

Originally the sub cover brake light would've been wired after the failure box, whereas the spoiler light should be before.

Rod, the 2 brake light wires are white/black and a black one. From the right side of the sub they run along back window to right pillar, then frontwards down behind right rear trim.Half way down they go back into the boot with rest of the wiring.Factory brake light wires go up through the right hand side hinge. Just check around the right hinge, some Soarers have a coil of wire with a white 2 wire plug on the end.I think that is for a brake light also.

Come to think of it,that coil is there because they dont have a spoiler on.

Okay then if I dont find them I suppose I can just run new wires to sub brake light make new con nections by cutting existing plugs off sub brake light and other end wired straight into wires running out of spoiler brake lights without blowing anything. Assume fuse would take the extra two bulbs in the sub brake light? Just a matter of cutting wires running down right hand boot hinge from foil light and joining sub brake lights to them, or is it not just that simple.?

Still couldnt find the original wires for brake light where they exit the parcel shelf so gave up and wired new wire directly to spoiler light wires and now works perfectly so now lit up like xmas tree at back.
