Hi Don, thinking of replacing my front and rear sway bar bushes. What is about cost of gen Toyota ones. Suppose they are readily available. Dont want anything plastic. Just slight squeek when car is cold but gone quickly so I assume its to do with sway bar bushes.

It'l be the front sway bar bushes Rod. I had the same thing on mine. Nice easy job, and the bushes are readily available from Toyota.

Part number is: 48815 - 24051 BUSH, FRONT, SWAY BAR JZZ3# & UZZ30/31 (5/1991 - 12/2000)

The retail price per bush when I bought mine in June 2005 was $30.20 incl.GST.

Peter Nitschke has an excellent tutorial on this site for doing the job.

The old ones were not at all badly worn, even at 130k, and I could have just used some Rubber Lube and re assembled, but I'd already bought the new ones and didn't see much point in not putting the new ones in.

The rear ones I've never had to touch, so I don't know what the price is, but the part number is:

48815 - 24070, which will probably supercede to 48815 - 24071

2 x Front, and 2 x Rear required obviously

I think I'd just "Rubber Lube" the rears Rod, and then only IF they're squeaking NOW.

They don't seem to wear anywhere near as much as the fronts, so if your fronts are just starting to squeak when cold, I wouldn't even bother about the rears at this point.

Though a mechanic once told me that once you add any sort of grease to your sway bar mounts, dust then makes the grease abrasive.

True Peter.
I should have used the word "Sparingly", but I assume most folks would know that

My Soarer is always squeaky first thing in the morning, and I always assumed it was the suspension struts + the cold temperatures (even though the Soarer is always in a closed garage, and I had brand new airbag struts fitted at xmas). I will be getting onto Toyota to get me four replacement bushes, and report back if that fixes the problem. If it does I will be so happy! i go over several sets of speed bumps (slowly) each morning and it me to hear the squeaks all the time.
