Hi all. Just got my Soarer last week, for $700. Yep. Mint paint/body '91 UZZ31, imported with 56K on the clock, cruelly stripped of engine, box, drive shaft, low milage airbags, and mint leather interior. As a result, I need interior parts. Does anyone know any good dealers of parts or importers of wrecks that can make my life easier?

I'm good friends with the people who bought the interior, and it has gone to a very good home!
I have no idea on what basis the car was originally parted out, but the whats and whys arn't really anyones business apart from the original owners!
Surely you knew the condition of the shell before you bought it? And had checked out the availability of the parts you need and done the maths (before you bought it!!), and decided it was a worthwhile purchase?
Seems to me that the only nutter in this whole situation is you!
Having said all that, try manurewa car spares, T parts (as above), K rd spares in hamilton, and totally toyota in New Plymoth. They should be able to help you out

At the end of the day It would probably be so hard to find decent interior for this low kms car you may aswell make it into a striped out track car! That would quite nice, a light weight v8, if you find a decent engine, manual gearbox and all the rest.
Is this the mint white 1991 Limited which was on Trade Me not long ago? That was a really nice example!

Yes it is the mint white pearl LTD from Trade me. Yes I knew the interior was 'totally stripped', and had done the maths. I'm more lamenting the fact that it was stripped in the first place. The guy who imported it wanted the running gear, engine, and interior for his one, but the interior was the wrong colour for him, so he sold it.
I've been talking to some parts importers, and seeing as the whole interior is bare, it would be easier to get a matching interior if I just imported a whole one from an auction car in Japan. Anyone got any ideas about what I should pay for a complete interior (even the aircon vents), plus what I should pay for an engine/trans and airbags? (The master plan is for a manual conversion before the engine goes in so I might hold off on the engine/trans for now) It wasn't my original plan to do it this way, but it seems to be the best approach for getting everything matching. I know that UZZ31 Soarers aren't selling for much more than $400 US at the auctions in Japan, so I don't want to over-quote how much I'm prepared to spend. Does 2K for a complete interior sound like too little or too much, given the prices I quoted above? I also need a driveshaft and possibly a diff. If they can find a '94 UZZ31 there is a chance that it will have a factory LSD in it, which would be very nice.

Sounds like a plan! The only other thing is: can the shell be complied?
I have a fairly good idea of manual conversion costs etc, by starting with a bare shell you're at quite an advantage in many respects (like fitting pedals etc). It depends on what engine and trans combo you intend to run, so when you decide that, let us know!
Have you considered going complely custom with the interior? ie: custom console, different seats (like evo4 recaros or something) - the lack of an interior could easily (if not cheaply) be turned from a negative into a positive!

Hey Michael, sorry to make your day but if the car has never been registered in NZ you won`t be able to.Since 2003 or there abouts any car made before 1996 will not comply with NZ frontal impact standards. That is why the chap you got it off, took off all the parts he needed for his car because he could not register it.Check this out;http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/importing/frontal-impact-compliance/frontal-impact-compliance-toyota-2003061 0.html

Thanks Rodger. I had just got home to check that very page when I saw your post. I did all the research on all this stuff in about 2002, and hadn't reviewed all the stuff I'd collected. So yeah, looks like it's dead. I suppose I'll have to part out the rest to reduce my losses. Front lip/bumper in pearl anyone? Low kms fuel ECU?

Oh man! I wondered why you wondered why it had been parted out!
I had just assumed that you'd have known- probably still a good buy, but I guess not a good buy for you seeing as how you wanted to put it on the road.
I'm sure that it won't be a financial disaster, just a crappy way to find out what a good bunch the LSTA really are
Have pm'd you about some of the bits if you do decide to part it out

It doesn't pay to become all bitter and twisted about it. Old data, possible dishonesty from the guy I bought it off, and a stupid law that paints every pre-96 car as unsafe were all contributing factors, as well as semi-impulsive behaviour. Something to learn from. Everything that milage affects, apart from wheel bearings and differential are gone. I've got some original UZZ31 seatbelts if anyone is keen. Some low Ks mirrors too.

I just got off the phone to a compliance place in Auckland. He said I might be able to road register it as a ***** ***, if I did a few things. Unfortunately, he had to take another call, so I'm going to talk to him in more detail tomorrow and find out what those things are. It's an outside chance, but I won't hold my breath

, I was looking at that earlier. It looks very nice, apart from the mods. I don't have 10K, hence the project. It was to have cost me 4K for a mint Soarer.

What is wrong with the censoring part of this forum. above, I wrote, a.y.e, as in the archaic word for 'yes', which I happen to use frequently. It really rubs me when people write 'a.ye?' when they mean "eh?"
Sorry about that
