So has David just disappeared again?

I have no kit, no money back and no communication from David.

In his few most recent write ups he hasn't mentioned a single thing about my kit or money.

Want some answers like yesterday.....

Sebastian, you should get a panel beater to look at it before you get too down on the whole thing. Mine wasn't fussed by what he saw. Said there would need to be some filling here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary for a copy kit. If high-beam holes are out of alignment that is a different matter, but mine are fine so I hope other people's are as well.

Wait.... Sebastian....

Did you just say that the kits are not made by shine auto? As in shine auto hasn't made the kits but a completely different shop has???

You must not be serious. Tell me that shine made these kits. Please.

Austen - I hope you fall off your bike and land face down dogpoo!

Oh and reason for my mega rant... Is that when this group buy started ... I was looking at it and umming and arring about it..

Then about a year later was when I started looking for a car in japan...

Rowan, the kits were copied from the Shine kit. You would've known that if you read the OP.

David, I've had good faith in you for most of this group buy as you've delivered in all of your other past group buys and you seemed like a good guy in general.

The thing that's pissing off a LOT of people here is the simple lack of communication. I can understand that you've had issues with your phone provider and moving houses, etc. however I think it's getting a bit ridiculous now. Whether you have proof of what's causing the delays or not, it doesn't matter.

People have invested their hard earned money in this venture and some have nothing to show for it. It surely can't be that hard to take out 30 minutes of your day to go to an Internet cafe and just update people, can it? I just can't see how anybody can be that occupied. Just come on and give these guys the info they want mate.

Rowan ya toolbag, at least have a glance at the original posts. Youll see that the original shine kit needed heaps of modifications to make it 'right' before it was put into a mould. It was in fact rather sh1t quality, like most copies of originals (remember, shine copied the AC original) and the plan, which went horribly wrong in the end, was to have the shine kit perfectly repaired before going into the mould. Unfortunately, whilst the mould was good, the quality of the SA fibreglasser was not.

Do you believe that though Aaron. Someone bought a shine kit (scott gates) and said it was near perfect. I think David wanted to make copies so he could make some money on the group buy.

Sebastion, I understand that you feel you have a reason to be bitter, but this post is mischievous at best.

How about everyone stop posting unhelpful stuff and let's see if we can get this thing wrapped up.

Here's something constructive. I just spoke got off the phone with m&j. He said for the guys that are in the group buy we can get a full kit made up for, wait for it................ $800!

If you're not part of the original group buy David on behalf of us as a group was going to charge $1200, $800 to m&j and $400 to the group.

Now with 15 people David has $22,500. $12,000 goes to m&j to make the kits (15 x 800 = $12,000) and David is left with $10,500 to get a mould made up and to purchase the shine kit. Pretty sure Scott purchase his kit for $1500 so unless the kit cost $9000 David has some money left over.

And what if people keep buying kits after the group buy? Do you think david is going to reimburse us? Don't think so.

Please David, please feel free to comment. Maybe there's other costs I'm missing, I'm not sure but it doesn't look good.

Seb, m&j told me they would make me a full kit for $750. So I'm guessing David got ours for maybe 650-700.

And I suppose David has kept the perfect shine kit for himself??

I don't mean to winge, but David has pocketed a good deal of money off this group buy.

Peter, would you consider banning David from this sight before he does any more damage??

The Original shine kit was around $2400 delivered with all the customs, freight and so forth. Plus the dollar back then was not over parity.

$750-800 for the kit sounds too cheap, but it does sound like a cheap kit was delivered if the complaints are warranted.

Molding costs for all of the 4 pieces and repairs would have been around $2000-$3000. I would suggest that the total cost to get just ONE kit out after purchase, delivery, molding and production would be around $6,000.

If the costs of the GB kits were that cheap, then it looks like quality was sacrificed for profit, which is pretty wrong considering the of the group buy. I suppose that's why the factory location and details were kept hush hush?

Yes Costa, that's the one. The guy is friendly and honest.

If you really piece this all together, it is pretty obvious that this was a business deal for David. NOT a helpful group buy.

My kit is very, very poor quality.

It's going to cost me a lot more money to fix this kit. NOT HAPPY!!

If its the same as Scott's your whinging....

The kit Scott has shown me fits almost better than the Genuine Origin kit I purchased.

You cant just slap a kit on your car and expect it to be right, it takes a few hours labour to get them right.

Scott may even have photos of his kit dummy fitted on my car...

To give you an idea my Origin kit needed around 10hrs labor for an exact fitment.

That's roughly $800-1000 labor for fitting at a reputable paint shop.

I'm referring to the wrap or sag in the centre of the front bar that hugs the bottom of the alloy bumper.

I am new at this, but there is no doubt this kit is rough.

I've seen pictures of Scotts for sale. It looks much cleaner than mine.

Oh dear fellas. David "Smash-n-Grab"owicz strikes! The ugly truth has reared its head. Had you all known you were purchasing a kit in the $650-$750 quality range, Im sure this GB wouldnt have ever gone ahead.

I have no interest in defending David as I think a) he is a tool, b) he has definitely made money off us and c) he took about 12 months longer than he needed to complete the group buy. But - at least get a panel beater to look at your kits before getting upset about quality. I physically took my kit to a panel beater and after inspecting it carefully he quoted me $900-ish (cash) to fit. A month prior to that I'd had the same shop fit a factory 97 kit for $700 cash. The kit is rough but that is irrelevant to a good panel beater. When fitted and painted it will look brilliant.

Seb,
I haven't seen my kit because I'm overseas but the one Scott is selling on here looks fine. I'd be interested to see some photos of the issues you have with your kit.
I've seen some other pics of the kit where its a bit rough round the indicator lights where its come out of the mould, but looked like an hour at most of filling and sanding.
My memory of photos of the fit of the Shine kit are that it wasn't that flash a fit.

Murray, they are only going to sell the extra kits for $800. Anything on top of that is supposed to go to us but I'm sure smash n grab was going to keep the extra money. He even stated that anyone who buys a kit after the group buy would pay more so say he charges $1800, that means he was going to make $1000 a kit. Pretty tidy profit.

The photos of the kit which Scott is selling, was the first kit made by m&j. And I can tell you it would have been made to A spec in order to grab the buyers interests, seems that all other kits after that went downhill.

I was told by the body shop that i showed my kit to, that it was well made from the mould and only has small imperfections which can be easy fixed during the fitment process.

The kit i have is the first yes, but the others after didn't look bad. Gavin had his installed and sent me some pics which i'll upload now so people can see the kit fitted up.

I have also uploaded some photos of my kit on my eoi:auto couture kit for sale thread, with absolutely nothing done to it on my car and you can see the fit.

Bit of a shame here guys. I mean the whole purpose of this GB was to get a kit that was BETTER than the Shine kit in terms of fitment and quality!

Furthermore, if M&J were pumping kits out of the mold too fast, it would have distorted during the whole process and that's why consequent kits turned out crap. Shine has 2-3 molds for their AC Kits as they do not use the same mold continuously and only use each mold it 1-2 times per week to avoid distortion. This was one of the key factors is getting a large shine kit order - it would have taken 3 months for production as they needed to slot us in to their fabrication schedule.

If David made $100-$200 a kit so he got one for free in the end, that would have been OK due to all the running around, but the main issue here is that the kit may have been produced to low standards and is really a $600-$750 kit instead of a $1200 kit which would have been 10x better in terms of fiberglassing and fitment.

I've got a genuine origin kit and I've fitted it to two cars in its raw form, and it has always been perfect, with a few minor tugs here and there to get it spot on. The mold of the kit is not raped in production, so the fitment is always good on Genuine Jap kits. Not 100% spot on, but a few lines of bog here and there to get it to gap right and it will turn out to be spot on. Fiberglass is an easy material to work with, it just needs time and patience to get a good result. I've glassed bars that have been split in 3 and and spent 25hrs on one bar just to get it half decent and it has turned out great! Sometimes panel beaters and painters get scared/pissed off when they see kits that don't fit right as they really CBF spending the time and effort to get a good result, even if you're paying them.

In hindsight, Blitz should have taken this contract to manufacture the kits. My Custom Front Bar was produced in 2 months, were just waiting on a car to get the final fitting spot on before the production run.

At least the rear number plate will fit unlike a Shine kit.

MMK Panels in Dandenong (Hilton St), ask for Mohammed or Khan. I've had them fix many cars for me and provided you give clear instructions you'll get good quality work for half the price of other places. For example, on the suggestion of people here I took my car to Rhodes Panels - they quoted me $7700 to fix hail damage (without any more than a glance at the car...I would have expected them to give it a detailed going-over to produce an accurate quote). MMK on the other hand fixed my hail damage and painted/fitted my 97 kit for $4000. After I'd taken the car home, I noticed some imperfections in the paint on the boot lid and they re-painted it, no questions asked.

WHERE IS MY MONEY DAVID. I WILL BE TAKING LEGAL ACTION. YOU HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO RESPOND IN REGARDS TO EITHER GETTING ME THE KIT OR REPAYING ME. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Hey Josh you best bet is to take him to small claims court as the copsjust see this as a bad business deal and they won't touch it unfortunatly. You could try For fraud via the internet which is a fedaral offence

I think what needs to be done is that we start selling the kits ourselves either through Ebay or here and with whatever we make on top of the $800 that M&J charge we add to the David smash 'n'Grab relief fund. How do we all feel about that? I don't feel good about having my kit while others like Joshua have nothing and there's plenty of people that are still owed postage money as well.

I've already open dialogue with M&J and they aren't happy with David so it won't be a problem taking control of proceedings from him. I'm happy to take over but I think that Scott being in close proximity to M&J and being a trusted member would be the man for the job. What do you all think?

I think that sounds great but i also feel like David is getting off too lightly and it shouldn't have come to having to do all that just to correct his f**k up.

So everyone is aware i have emailed David letting him know i do intend to talk to my solicitor and have him find EVERY way i can screw David over. If he communicated with me maybe we could resolve this but seeing as he hasn't and email after email has gone unreplied he has left me no choice. At this point i couldn't give a flying FU#K about whatever is going on with him. he owes me and that is that.

P.S. HOPE YOU READ THIS DAVID AND I HOPE YOU GET WHAT IS COMING.
