The bypass valve pressure is not an issue so it would come down to clearance on a TT. If it were mine I would give it a try. Or you could start bringing in the 20003's as well.

Hi Jeff, I have been surfing the web and came across this on a US site.:
"The 90915-20004 oil filter is Toyota Denso brand, made in Japan. This is the OLD Part No.. Toyota makes another filter for their V8 motors, the 90915-YZZB5, that is supposed to compete with other low-end filters. The YZZB5/YZZB9 filters are also smaller than the 20004 and they do not have oil bypass valves like the 20004. The 90915-20004 is also cross-labelled as the 90915-03005 and 90915-20002 for the SC430. They are all the same filter. The 90915-20004 has been discontinued since mid-December 2003 and replaced with the Thailand-made 90915-YZZD3. All Toyota and Lexus V8s will be assigned this new filter. It has a slightly thinner filter element. The alternative to this is the TRD filter part# 00602-90915-007. The TRD filter is the essentially the same as the old 20004"
Is there any validity to the above? And are the part numbers specified correct?

Jeff, i went into Toyota today, to buy a filter for a 1JZ-GTE. The part number 90915-20003 has since been superseded by thai made toyota filter, 90915-YZZD2.
The guy behind the counter seemed to click with me asking for the older version, (which he said were larger and had a different valve system.
Which item do you have for the TT Soarer. I ask because in the above posts, no-one mentions the YZZD2 version. This particular item is apparently suitable for "JZ" "2TZ-FE" "3S-GTE" "MZ" "1G" "M" "VZ" and "22R" motors.
This sounds similar to what Mercedes has done with their filters. I remember they used to be huge, and never interchanged with other similar flange sizes. Now they are all made elsewhere, are thinner, dont have the same valve body, but remain the same. I now use MANN oil filters on the benz as they are exact copies of the OEM version (which was originally produced by MANN anyway...gawd!)
Im after the "right" version for my Twin Turbo.
I'll take 6 (six!), if ya got em. Plus freight to NT.
